Great video. Thanks for putting it up. I can remember older people saying what a rough bunch they were in Summer Lane but everyone living in backers across Brum lived a rough old life and were fighters....they had to be. Takes me back to grandads house in Holliday St, off Holloway Head, where i was born in Leamington Rd in Sparkbrook and Saturday night singalongs in the Jolly Fitter, Longbridge, where we moved out to when dad got a job at the Austin. Every Saturday in the Rag Market which I hated but dad would buy me cockles with vinegar and pepper in the fish market, or roast spuds/chestnuts, to stop me moaning. Vimto & Crisps outside the Glassmakers Arms, Fresh Roe and chips from William St washed down with a glass of stera. Men in their Sunday best down the boozer before going home for dinner and a snooze before Monday came around. All gone now. Living in France now, via London, but its still etched in my memory. Wish I could go back in time to see all the old family again!

Rag market for jellied eels. That was my experience off the back of ar nan & grandad (Pam n Jim) forcing me up there. Experiencing what's going on now.... I look back in envy. Nan coming from Lozells Road and both grandad Jim and Tom on Summer Lane. Count your blessings! God bless x

@@marshallspiers172 One Saturday my dad took me into town and bought some eels to make jellied eels at home. Halfway back on the 145 Midland Red bus women started screaming. My dads eels had escaped from the brown paper bag and were crawling around the bus 😂

My mum and nan lived on summer lane in the early 60’s. My mum used to work at the Casterway club.

Could you tell me if the 'Way Down Summer Lane' song is available or downloadable from somewhere ? I'm trying to get a copy to play at my Uncle's funeral. Thanks
@lainewallace35036 жыл бұрын
Dear Martin, is this downloadable? My uncle has requested this at his funeral and I can't seem to download it. Is it possible to be sent the file? I promise it will not be replicated etc. only used at the funeral so we can sing him out to the song the demonstrates how very proud they all are (friends and family) to be Summer Lane born and bred. It would mean so much to us to be able to do this for him. I may try and contact you through Carl Chinn too as time is of the essence.
