I've been blue crab crabbing in NJ all my life. You don't EVER need blue crab fuel. Use chicken gizzards and literally any kind of chum fish. If you want to kill it, use Limberger cheese and chicken mixed in a cheese cloth too.

Grew up in manalapan.....crabbed every summer....Pr. Pleasant....Manasquan Inlet....Guilford Park. Never needed anything but chicken legs.....and good nets.....even with hand lines

Looked to me me (and also would mention I only saw the first run so far) but looked like their were twice as many traps with the fuel than their were without it. Think I saw 2 traps without it maybe 3

Baited Jersey traps for years.... .never needed anything but chicken legs.....born and raised on Jersey shore......never saw anyone use fuel on bait......not necessary if you know where to crab and how to use nets
