Hi Larry….watched your video on power outages. We live in central Florida and when we lose power, my wife suffers in the heat and dead air. We purchased the usb camping fan you demonstrated this week and have it already. We are pleased with our purchase for $30. It puts out good cool air on low speed. I doubt we’d ever need to use a higher speed, which will make each charge last longer. We will probably purchase a second fan so we’ll have one charging while the other is in use. Now let’s hope we never have to USE IT, lol. Thanks for the heads up on the fan! My wife and I enjoy watching your (and Hope’s) videos. Keep up the good work!

So glad that tip was helpful. I ended up purchasing two more from Amazon that have LED lights built into the them. I had to use some of them when a branch of power was cut off in the basement resulting in the loss of AC. I ran mine on low as well. Plenty of air circulation. Blessings!

Hi Larry! The power outage in Ohio was in Columbus, I'm about 90 miles from there in Dayton. There was a severe deracho that went through here Monday that knocked out power to around 20,000 here around Dayton and 175000 around Cincinnati. The storms were headed towards Columbus and they shut down power around the city to minimize damage with the incoming storm. I'm sure our rolling blackouts are coming, this one was mother nature created, lol!

as far as keep a pet comfy,we have a big cat.he is like almost 40 pounds .not fat,just huge. we give him ice water from the fridge in the summer.(we keep bottles of tap water,and a pitcher of water in the fridge year round) of course my hubby brushes the cat.get as much loose fur off as possible.that cools them down. some pets will let you wipe them with a wet rag and cool water.not cold.lukewarm

Hope your power resolves to full capacity. Makes me glad I got a 5000 btu AC that runs on my solar & gas generators. Gas stocked up too @ $ 3.82 a gallon. The good old days of March versus today. Lol A 1000 w Jackery solar generator will run the AC for 7 hours. Tested. My Ranier 2200w gas generator runs 13 hours on 1.3 gals of gas.

Good job, Larry! 😉 We have a solar appliace with 24V and 500W, a charger, old car batteries (didn't cost us nothing. Get them from our garage and give them back, when they're working no more), a converter. A long power cord goes from the shed into the house. Here we have installed two outlets, one for the kitchen, one for the office and the living room. In the kitchen only the stove works with "normal" current. Over these oulets we charge although laptops, phones, the vacuum cleaner, the bikes, the batteries of chainsaw and brushcutter. Additional we have a 300 W panel on the roof with a special charger making it possible to inject the current directly in our private power grid behind the electricity meter. Remain 45 kWh per month to pay. This includes the stove, the central heating for hot water two times a week, the freezer and the fridge. Even the washing machine works under the 300W produced by the roof panel. So I'm washing only when the weather is fine.

God bless you and yours. I watched the show but I kept waiting for Hope to jump in to elaporate on a detail. I pray she is doing better. I live in an apartment in Chicago. The main thing I worry about outages is the length of time. Being a senior with back issues I have an upright freezer. I wanted to get a 48 or 50 qt cooler chest. The issue is storage when not in use. If the grid goes down, we won't have ice anyway. I have mainly cooked meals in my freezer.
@larryware1
@larryware1 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Madeline. Freezers and refrigerators are a concern when power is out. The main thing is limited access when the power is out. Know where your items are and quickly open and close the door. If you can afford a power generator, one of those could run it off and on for several days.

Great content! Enjoy your tips and posts. Regarding fans. Most, if not all the major brand, cordless power tool manufacturers offer fans for their 12 and 18V batteries. Ryobi has a current deal available at HD that includes 2ea, 18v 4ah batteries with charger and a choice of one of several free tools, one of which is a 3 speed fan all for $100. Great for camping or emergencies. I also have a power inverter for my Milwaukee 18v batteries that I have used for filling air matresses and charging phones (has USB port also). Makes it easy to setup temporary bedding in the basement where it is much cooler during a power outage in hot weather.

If you can get off the grid do it the investment is worth it, a solar generator is a good idea if you can't get off the grid because it's not going to get cheaper or more reliable if it's even available at all in the near future.

Maybe not but my elderly dog will find himself a spot directly in front of the fan. We don't have central air and the temps here in central Ohio have been in the 90's the past few days.

If one side of your 220 volt service is low it is a problem with the transformer, need to call the electric company!!!
@larryware1

I had an electrician look at the issue today, Wally. It was a main fuse to that feeds the basement circuits. It was acting strangely - getting power for awhile, then cutting out, so I didn't suspect a fuse. Now it's all fixed.

QUESTION: If they ban gas generators where I live, can I use the transfer switch I just had installed on my Egoflow Delta? Can I plug in my Egoflow via that transfer switch? Then power up what I want? Thanks Larry
@larryware1
@larryware1 2 жыл бұрын
That's a better question for a qualified electrician. I found out that I can't easily use my 3500 watt gas generator with a transfer switch because it doesn't put out 220 volts. In order to hook it out that way it has to provide power to both sides of the electrical panel to provide power to all the circuits. But, once again, check with a professional.

You showed a different battery operated fan on another show. What was that one called? Have you found it isn’t great as your recommending this one?

This one is larger and has the light ring around it. We bought the smaller fan last week just because we wanted to unbox it and try it out for our audience. The fan from last week's video is a good fan - smaller and more portable than the one we showed this week. Larry saw the bigger fans on Amazon and bought a couple last week to try out for you all.

Hi Guys, I was about to buy the Kaito emergency radio and I wanted to ask if you have ever charged your phone on it ? I was hoping not to have to buy a solar charger for the hone too. also saw that the electrical charging cord is not included when purchasing the radio so you have to buy seperately... did you buy it for your needs or rely solely on solar? thank you.
@larryware1
@larryware1 2 жыл бұрын
The radio will not charge a cell phone. Also, I wouldn't rely on the little solar panel it comes with to charge its own battery. Otherwise, it's a great radio. All you need to charge it is a micro USB cable, like the ones used to charge smart phones. You don't need their AC adaptor. Hope this helps.

Solar is not an option for most of the midwest. I live in Michigan and there is no ability to count on solar as a alternative resource for electricity. We might not see the sun for days or weeks.

Start saving for one or find a family you could spend time with if you are without power. Or purchase what you can afford. I started out with a marine battery and an inverter.

You can get a small hand held solar powered battery bank for under $40.00 U.S. that will charge phones, tablets, and usb powered fans. My favorite usb rechargeable fan is a Amacool stroller fan with a flexible tripod that allows it stand upright or can attach to many things. It is quieter than most I have tried and yet very powerful with 3 speeds and has a light up option as well. Also, only around $30.00.

Why are people calling batteries power generators? A battery is a store of power only thats finite ie. Jackerys etc. They last perhaps 1 day. A generator is independent except for fuel which no one can afford lol.
