I leave mine standing through the winter. It creates a little texture through the winter season, and the birds will eat some of the seeds off those flower heads. Then, in the spring I just sheer those dried stems back to the ground level. They're so very easy!

You're welcome! It makes a big difference in overall height and the ability to stay standing through winter.

Wow I know it's very late in the season, but thanks for this info cause my serum get so tall that they fall. I have been staking them early but they still slop over cause they out grow my staking. I will try next season n WILK reboot the cuttings.

Yes, worth doing. I have been doing this….the Chelsea chop I suppose…..for a few years now. Produces sturdy floriferous plants with no flopping

I agree - it's great to have them standing all winter for the birds!

Hi Amy, did the pruned sedum end up the same height as it would normally? Or maybe shorter? It would be great to have a short Autumn Joy, maybe 12-15”
@missamysgarden19312 жыл бұрын
It ends up just a little shorter with more, smaller heads. This helps keep it standing through winter better.

Wow , your Sedum is absolutely looking gorgeous , my Sedum flowers just about started started ,

Maya, get out and prune them back so you have shorter stems that stand up better through the winter. You'll also have a late fall source of food for our pollinators, too!

That's Autumn Joy - very hardy, pretty and the bees love it!

I think it needs to be divided

You're right! It seems to get pushed down on the To Do List, and sometimes doesn't get done early enough in the season.
