I’m Grateful to my Parents for taking me on Holidays as a child & Travelling South West from the West Midlands was a Big Adventure to me as Youngster, Albeit right at the end of the Steam Era. Seeing the Sea for the First Time as we got South of Exeter and Along the Sea Wall at Dawlish/Teignmouth was my Absolute Fave part of the Journey, and 60 years later the Magic of this Area is Still present for me.

I too spent summer holidays in the 70s in Devon & Cornwall chasing Western Region locos with my parents😎 Many hours spent on Dainton Bank & along the sea walls at Dawlish & Teignmouth,so its great to see that picture recreated today with D1015 back on the mainline, just a shame that Dad is no longer with us as he would have loved it too.Thanks for watching & taking the time to leave a wonderful comment.Cheers Dave😎👍

@@berksandhantsfreight Yep; I saw her at Swanage recently, and managed to get a short clip. When I was growing up, lived in Maidenhead on Paddington main line. Westerns, Warships, Hymeks were the staple. The sounds still linger; but we HATED those bloody Hoovers that usurped them!

Thanks👍 I believe that after the 2021 engine failure, the DTG took the decision to replace the two original Maybach MD655 engines fitted to D1015 with a pair of ex-Indian Navy MTU 538 engines, which are essentially a later development of the engines carried in the Westerns.Thanks for watching👍

Noticing the lack of people leaning sensibly out of the windows shows why I will never go on another railtour. They're more like glorified coach tours these days which totally misses the point of why we used to love train travel in the good old days of BR. OTT H&S regulations has killed this type of rail travel for me.
@SamNicholson-om4nj6 ай бұрын
This. Honestly I too don't see the point of Railtours anymore, if you can't even see the loco your travelling behind then why bother. The problem is that people no longer take responsibility for their own safety and if someone was to get injured or killed, they or their family would go after the tour operator for compensation in court. Which would likely put an end to that tour operator. I would like to see some sort of compromise reached, even if passengers have to sign a disclaimer saying that they understand the risk of leaning out of open windows and the tour operator can not be held responsible. Similar to theme parks etc. Even writing this, it sounds pathetic but unfortunately it's just how the world is now with sueing culture. Also of note in this video is the crew hanging out of the rear cab window. Yeah sometimes I get that train crew may need to lean out of their window in some saftey critical circumstances such as checking if the rear of the train has passed a speed restriction. However here it seems like one rule for them and another rule for the others, no safety critical duties were bieng undertaken due to the fact the crew were filming it on a mobile phone. It's not the first time I've seen it as well, I put the lens of my camera out of a droplight to film a charter journey one time. I did it for about 20 seconds before a steward came and told me off and told me to immediately sit down in a seat. I was really pissed off when I reviewed my footage from the day when I got home and guess what, on the video I took when the train was arriving into the station where I boarded, the exact steward that told me off for putting my camera lens out was window hanging. It wasn't even necessary for them to do it aswell, because that's the duty of the Guard to observe the trains arrival, not some random steward.
@SamNicholson-om4nj6 ай бұрын
Also of note, if you have the means to do so, then get yourself out into Europe. There are plenty of opportunities to lean out of open windows. Here's a few examples: The Douro Valley line in Portugal. This line uses the Portuguese version of the class 20, some of which were built at the Vulcan Foundry. Great for EE thrash and the scenery is world class. They sometimes leave the carrige doors open too allowing you to go one step up and door hang A class 47 was exported to Hungary (47375) and usually does one Railtour a year. The "European Sleeper" currently has stock with openable windows although it's European Electric traction. Plenty of other countries such as the Czech Republic who still have trains with openable windows.

Not been on a Rail tour since being ticked off by a steward as Western Champion climbed from St Davids to Central. Totally pointless especially now they incarserate you in coffins. Will go and watch Champion while she is on mainline, so I can hear and see it.
