New Jersey has the good fortune of following Rocksylvania. People have a generally good time in our little state. It is bright - has a lot of ridge line - it is varied - and the Trail magic is representing. And there is a drive in movie

The acidity of the oak tree leaves dissolve the iron content of the soil. The iron oxidizes in the water so that’s the reason for the brown color. That ridge is high iron and copper. Hope that helps.

The color of NJ water is from mineralization. It looks nasty after filtering but tastes perfectly fine.

Hi Maddie! Welcome to New Jersey! Or would you rather hear "New Joysey?!" We do have a wide variety of accents, depending on which part of the state you're from. Actually, it's not us New Jerseyians that have any accent, we speak quite normally. It's the rest of the world that talks funny! LOL! Well, at any rate, we're glad you made it...1,300 miles! Wow! You're really moving right along. Keep at it! We're proud to be even a small part of the AT! And so glad you enjoyed our soft and cushy parking lot to take a nap! Again, LOL! That tall spire-shaped monument was in HIGH POINT State Park. It is the highest elevation in the state. Glad you also were able to go swimming in the Delaware River. Sorry about all the rain, we'll have to talk to the weatherman about bringing better weather to all the AT hikers next time! Oh, and the fireworks...I think alot of towns had to postpone and reschedule their July 4th celebrations partly due to the weather. Either that, or we were just celebrating Ranger Maddie's arrival! We weren't trying to scare you...we were celebrating your presence! Sorry for the confusion. At any rate, we're glad you paid us a visit. You're welcome in New Jersey anytime! Well, keep safe, and ENJOY!

Oh Maddie I loved this video. Lake looked so much fun. Never thought to use the mattress in the lake. Great idea. I’m glad you guys are still having fun and getting miles in. I so understand the storms. When I’ve hiked and got caught in them I’m always going up hill. It’s the end of the trail so I’ve had no choice but continue. Thank you so much for making these beautiful videos and sharing them with us all!!!!❤

Oh, New Jersey! This video brought back the memories from last year. I had my first bear encounter by the fire tower in High Point state park. The water in New Jersey is full of tannins and tastes bad the farther north you go. Check the shelters for water cashes. Trail angels bring in water to the shelters. Congratulations on 1300 miles! You look happy and healthy. We love your positivity!! ❤

@dawnsteisslinger353 Жыл бұрын
There’s a spot ( or was) in Shenandoah NP. Right after Bear Den Mountain heading North that seemed to have you going in a circle. I was just hiking the trail there last year and thought it was making me go around. On the way back I decided to take the first turn instead and didn’t end up circling back. I think they might had been redoing that part of trail and just hadn’t gotten the markings off. I’ve been since BUT knew the path so didn’t try to figure it out. It was really annoying.

So glad you’re enjoying the journey through NJ so far. And those accents were likely New Yorkers. I’m from NJ and most people who are born there don’t really have much of an accent, unless your from Philly area or maybe your folks are from Brooklyn or something.

Thoughts of Taylor Swift's music ... hmmm. Wild cat looked like a bobcat, couldnt make out much of a tail. It seems like you found the right tramily, need more beer though... Carmine Sandiego (aka Sara Dhooma) still has you beat on recorded beers in trail towns. Keep up the enjoying hike, Cheers!
