In the series conclusion, Johh, Stasi, Stacey, and Allen talk about humorous stories from past summer blunders they've made....while offering counsel for how not to make similar mistakes. The goal isn't to fill your summer with activities or put all your hopes on one vacation, but to ask Jesus, What is the pace that you have for me this summer?
Show Note: The closing reading is from Every Moment Holy by Douglas Kaine McKelvey.
Part 1 here: • What You Need This Summer

On this day called Memorial Day, I just realized I learned about R n R from the time my brothers were in Nam. The military thought it was so important they took my brothers out of the battle line to give it to them! It’s another lesson I need to remember. ❤️

This is timely for me and is affirming to some (Holy Spirit guided) decisions I've recently made. I'm moving from New England to Oregon in June. I only know 2 people in Oregon - sister and her husband. I decided that I would give myself 6 months to settle in and hear the Lord about what to give my time and energy to there. I also decided - since I'm flying cross-country - to take advantage of the opportunity and make 3 stops: first in Minnesota to visit a sister and her husband; then to Colorado Springs to spend time with my best friend; and to California where my daughter & family including new great grandchild live. The travel will cover 12 days. All of this with an eye on "The Long Game", margins, and all is because I know that "good is coming to me -- that good is always coming." ALL of this came out of losing a parttime job and 24 hours in the ER for neurological issues. It is all sooo good! Goodness of God is soundtrack of my life.

I am a caregiver to my husband who had a TBI when he was 59. We are into our 8th year since this accident. He always worked 12 hours a day just something people in his profession do. I always looked forward to when he would retire and he could drive me around and we could run errands together. It sounds silly but I see retired couples together all the time at the pharmacy and grocery store and I'm happy for them but it hurts me. So this year we turned 67 and I feel so tired. I have had many orthopedic surgeries including spinal fusion. My husband's in a wheelchair. Anxiety is a problem for me. I did come to Jesus which is the best thing I ever did. I loved the calmness of your tone of your voices. Many take away from this Podcast but two that I wrote down is to take a breath every morning and I don't have to earn my Joy. I also loved the Prayer at the end I wish I could get that written down. I would love the book but If I buy one more book my husband will be so mad. I have bought so many bibles and devotionals. I will save this podcast. Thank you for your service to others. I appreciate you so much.🙋🏻‍♀️💜📖🙏

Here is the excerpt they read. I don't have the original, and the format I used is about highlighting ideas, not the rhymes or rhythms. oh Christ, our Sabbath, you have fashioned us to function best in rhyming lines of work and rest our relaxations and recreations like unspoken invitations to that still greater holiday to come when all burdens will at last be shed and weariness be put to bed and gladsome joy stretch endlessly before us in our days away let us play together let us laugh together let us be moved to speak such meaningful words as ought to be spoken among family and friends let us linger long at tables and drink deeply of one another's company enjoying each for who they are with the steady pressures of our ordinary days now lifted as you called your disciples to come away with you retreating from the crush of crowds pausing in their long work simply to rest, to reflect, to enjoy your company your words your conversation to enjoy their fellowship with one another so help us also in this time of our vacation to carve out spaces merely to be to be with you to be together, to be refreshed and so bless our days spent in rest and bless also our eventual return home that we might return as those who have been revived with hopes resurrected delight restored hearts ready again for forward movement into life strength renewed to shoulder once more the meaningful labors assigned to us in this season

Alan talked about being fully present. Headed into winter here, it's more challenging, but can still be done. It just requires intentionality
