I just found the coolest airplants in the park and blooming! I live in Buenos Aires and its amazing that such a pretty plant grows on trenes. The gardeners almost threw them in the garbage but they were saved and now you can see them bloom.

Tengo un par que encontré en las veredas caminando por la ciudad (se habían roto las ramitas). Son re fáciles de cuidar y muy hermosas. ⚡️

Hi Summer! I was watching this video a few weeks ago and when you mentioned that silvery Tillandsias do better in brighter light, I moved my Spanish moss out of the shade to a brighter spot. At first, I thought it was looking a little poorly because it got too much sun. I was so wrong! Now it's thriving and looking better than ever. Thanks for the tip!

best watering method... soak for an hour once a week, plus mist lightly half way through the same week. turn upside down in a dish rack for several hours to dry after each soaking/misting. type of water to use: absolutely NO tap water. they hate the chemicals. distilled or rainwater is ok. but because they crave acidic water, i find soaking/spraying with the bottled water brand Dasani which has a 6 to 6.5 PH is the BEST. just try it. bright light for sure but NO direct sun. love your vids, Summer.

Very reliable and easy care for tillandsia. It’s a good plant to start for beginners! I dunk it in tap water though sometimes I let it sit for few hours. I usually dilute the water with seaweed liquid. It has work well..great to gift ppl the full grown babies, add with a bit of prop like driftwood, glass bottles, bamboo sieves or just tie it with an aluminium wire and nylon string to hang.

I recently bought a Tillandsia ionantha in my local garden centre ~ it is glued into a fridge magnet (no soil) mini half pot! After I spray it with rainwater I swivel it upside down (on the side of the fridge) for an hour to let any excess water drain out of the lower crevices of the leaves to prevent potential rot. When it outgrows its mini container I'd like to display it on a decorative bark wall plaque ~ to look more naturalistic.

Hi Joanna 🙂 are you from London or UK somwhere? How do you water your ionantha? Mine has soak every week for 20 minutes i she started to lose outer leaves. Maybe she needs less water? Please if you can help me. Appreciate it 💚

How do you water air plants that have to bloom? I heard you’re not supposed to water the bloom cause it will rot.

I've had mine for a few months now. I'm in Melbourne, Australia and it seems fine with my tap water

Really awesome information!! I love these air plants and are adding more and more as I see them, eapecially the unique ones lol Our water here in Central Florida is pretty harmful for a lot of my plants and I have to let my water sit out for 24hrs before I water. Thanks for sharing!

question: How much should I water my plant in more warm and humid climate, South-East Asia to be specific, where I live we get average of 67-70% humidity in summer, and I'm wondering if I should water it less. I had one which I throughly misted once a week, and it rotted. So I'm wondering if I should water it less cause of the climate.

I collect rain water and dunk my tillandsia four to six hours once a week to every two weeks. I've noticed that the plants I water with rainwater respond better to rainwater from thunderstorms which have lightening. Don't know why but they do.

Lightning fixes atmospheric nitrogen so the rain water from a thunder storm should contain more plant food.

I water all my house plants from my rain barrel. I dunk my air plants once a week for 30 min, place them upside down to dry out. I have 8 different kinds of air plants and over 50 other house plants. They all love the rain water.

I've never had a problem with my municipal water. These plants can go weeks without water, particularly if they are a thick leaved variety. I believe not watering them may induce flowering. To dry after soaking you can just turn them upside-down and plop them on a counter or another plant's pot. A fan is not necessary unless it's super humid. They can also be soaked for hours without issue. They are fairly hardy, though I have had them die when otherwise thriving. Hard to say what causes it. You also have to be careful when buying, many stores sell them dead!

I recently acquired my first, tillandsia ionantha of what seems to be var. "stricta" (it is growing straight upright and the leaves are very thin and narrow all the way from the base to the tips and they are quite spread out. if I was to mark the tips of every leaf, it would get a ball where all the points are of equal distance frmo the nearest neighbouring point...) ANYWAY, is it good if i spray/mist my plant in the morning and then give it direct sunlight in a east-south facing window?

Not necessary to change care during winter, just keep them at room temperature, soak once or twice a week.
