So a big thanks to my Patreons for picking ‘Summertime’ as the standard of the month. In today’s video I show you a simple way you can the chords. Let me know if you have any questions. Andy

Great lesson! Thanks 😊 I love the visuals you flash up on the screen and theory you chat about. It's really helpful.

Thanks Annette. I was in two minds about including the theory in this one, but think it’s odd to teach a song and not explain it 👍

This is an awesome version. In the past, I always felt that playing Am6 instead of Am7 gave more of the sad feeling and more complex harmony that felt good to my ear but this stripped down version in interesting because the audience might not think it's Summertime we are playing... nice and thanks.

I agree re the minor 6 making it feel a bit of downer. Nothing wrong with it, but it’s nice the way this song can be interpreted in different ways.

Andy, thanks again a clear informative video lesson. These are a welcome moment just to listen and learn. For me the comping and chords are the things I like most.

Thanks Stuart. How do you find doing r bossa style?

Like bossa nova style girl from ipenema, so nice and that sort of tune but at the moment I just listen and write down what I want to do later. I have broken my left collar bone and the guitar is not easy at the moment.

Thank you!! Beautifully simple!! Of course there are simpler versions (e.g. one by bluesman J.B. Hutto), but they're not jazzy.

Yes, it's the simplest we can get away with and it still be a jazz version :)

You can also end with Am6

Yes, that's a nice chord to finish on. Or maybe Am6/9?

And three days later, we have Sharp Eleven Music transcribing a slightly more, shall we say, convoluted arrangement... kzbin.info/www/bejne/aICVZHeJms6tmdk I think I'll just sit here with Andy on this one...
