It's so important to learn to play pieces. The fun thing is that you can see theory coming together in a practical sense and certain chord sequences or sets such as 1/5 or 2/5/1 become real tools to understand harmonic sense of drive.. and also when you try to make music of your own. Pieces like summertime truly show you all the building blocks of music wrapped up in an easy listening tune. Nice job on using the 'layer' approach, it makes so much sense !

Excellent clear and gradual explanation. I like how you start with the very basic foundation and little by little add more chords in between to embellish and make more interesting, along with the reasoning of why they work. This tutorial came at the perfect time for me, as I'm going to transcribe this piece from A minor to F minor, to make it more easy to sing for a chorus I accompany. It's easier for me to think of the Roman numerals than thinking "major third down from E" et cetera. Thanks!

you tube is one of the greatest invention in these days for musicians, This because some teachers not only visualize the theory, but also demo the evolution of the standard practical development of advanced pieces from simple and humble beginnings . Some of us used to pay $ for this . lol

What a Master class! Thanks you so much! I loved how you start with the esencial bones of the song, that's the way. I'm very motivated to do this same process for my self with others standars. Thanks again, rewards from Uruguay!

Hi there ! Thanks for a super video lesson which you break down so easily - making it easier to follow. I've been put off paying this classic piece due to the number of extra chords involved which I could never figure out. ( I play mainly on guitar and much less on piano ). Looking forward to trying this classic piece of music. Thanks again . . . . . Eddie. A UK. follower.

@@TheJazzPursuit I've had an absolute blast practicing this and I got to the point of last charts. However I got a little dopamine dip when I figured that this is not what you present at the beginning/end. I get that it is advanced and there are many voicing and stuff but I would be happiest person if you could at some point explain stuff at the boss level that you are playing at. Since it sounds absolutely fantastic. Anyway, once again, thanks a lot for this, cheers :)

I'm a beginner jazz guitar player and I've been seeing a ton of content online but this is perhaps the most helpful video. The mix in theory with examples and explain everything in a basic way... thanks so much! I really like your teaching method

At 16:04 how come you don’t play the flat 9? It’s just an E7. Shouldn’t there be an F note?
