They know this video is also about them and they get feverishly defensive, insulting Act Man with "he doesn't know what he's talking about." What would feel awful is the weapon balance, the sandbox of halo does not suit a br. CoD could make the switch because the guns are uninspired, every weapon does more or less the same thing, shoot bullet to kill, while halo weapons are suited to many different roles, shield depleters, melee heavy hitters, vehicle busters, fuckin mini guns and rocket launchers on a warthog. And lets be honest, og halo players would wipe the floor with streamers, making them scream for weapon changes, it would just change too much for the sake of a br, and its not worth it.

I find the conversation about competitive shooters and competitive Halo to be rather interesting. Because, as someone who has been a giant Halo fan since the first game came out and has regularly played the games ever since, the competitive scene of Halo seems to have very little sway or impact on the fan base. Sure, Halo 2 and Halo 3 had some notable competitive scenes with standout players like Ogre 1 and Ogre 2, Walshy, Snipedown, etc., but ever since then the series has really failed to maintain a competitive scene. And even during that relative heyday for Halo competitive play, it always felt more like it's side thing rather than a driving force within the community and the series itself. It was like an evolution of the existing pro scenes for games like Quake and Unreal Tournament which shared that arena style combat. And ever since Halo 3 the pro scene has seemed increasingly irrelevant and even forced. 343i tried really hard to make Halo 5 a competitive centric shooter with specific game modes and gameplay catered towards that style of play, but even in the first couple years after launch that scene was, to be perfectly honest, kind of pathetic. Viewership wasn't great and it never came even remotely close to having the kind of enduring competitive scene that CS:GO had and continues to has. Hell, I've heard substantially more about Rainbow Six: Siege's competitive scene than I have about Halo's in the last several years and I have never played Siege, nor do I participate in its community in any way. And friends of mine I played Halo 3 with for hundreds and hundreds of hours throughout middle school are very excited for Infinite and they have never given a shit for Halo competitive play, nor will they. The real appeal of Halo (aside from the campaign) has never been the competitive community, it's been the sandbox and the things you could create in the game, especially with the introduction of Forge and Theater mode. I have always seen way more attention given to cool Forge creations, Machinima, and inventive custom games than I ever saw with the attempts at cultivating a competitive scene. I guarantee you far more people are familiar with Red vs. Blue than they are with any Halo pro player and cool projects like that helped build a lasting legacy and reputation for the series that other games like CoD or Battlefield never really possesed. It made Halo more unique and gave it a certain character and personality that cultivated a really passionate fanbase and community that greatly exceeded whatever Halo competitive community still exists.
@RaiuShinohana3 жыл бұрын
You've absolutely nailed it. 100% this is the appeal to Halo and what made it popular. Halo Tricks, Hidden Masters, game physics interactions causing seemingly random kills, and custom game modes/maps easily accessible to the rest of the playerbase is the entire reason Halo popularity soared. NOT the esports scene. Well put, sir.
@wisdumcube3 жыл бұрын
In some ways, the Halo series occupies the same space as Minecraft: the scene is sustained by the creative output of its community. Before Forge completely let the fanbase's imaginations run wild in Halo 3 and beyond, players were taking advantage of absurd and hilarious glitches in Halo CE and Halo 2 and uploading videos of them online, even before youtube. Red vs. Blue wasn't the first Machinima, but it was the first breakout success in the medium partially because of Halo's impressive level design (at the time) that allowed a stage for the creators (Rooster Teeth) to tell stories in large, detailed, diverse environments. What Halo has going for it is that it was and is a versatile sandbox to exploit. People forget that competition is not the only way to keep a franchise relevant.

@AB-or1uz3 жыл бұрын
It's probably the adrenaline of "fighting for your life" in BR's that makes it tense and attractive to certain players. In arena shooters you don't really get that experience since death is inconsequential and quick most of the time (compared to BR's). That being said, Halo could have BR when forge eventually gets released.

I once saw someone talk about how if halo had a br, it’d be cool to be an ODST marine dropping into the map from drop pods. As a ODST character you wouldn’t be as beefy as a Spartan and the armor designs could really be unique if 343 was to create cool designs for it. that idea was pretty cool to me but I also don’t know how they’d balance weapons so would it even work? Halo has really been about precision weapons when it all comes down to it so a br would fall to about 4 different weapon combinations and no variety depending on balance. If streamers expect the arena multiplayer to be dead on arrival, what’s the difference when it comes to a br besides having a squad of 4?

Damn I had to watch this twice to focus on both Summit1g's take and then the god awful chat and I only have 1 major thing and 1 minor. First the minor Summit's response on the Halo 5 comment Act Man just really flew right over his head I guess, Act Man clearly stated " Halo 5 was more accustomed to competitive players" and him hoping Infinite would be just like it is well his opinion I really can't say nothing on that, to each is own. Secondly the major thing I took away from this was that chat. My god the chat is either filled with a bunch of trolls or really are so ignorant that they choose to unconsciously take shitty take after take. They see one small glance of the video Act Man has made and just bash this man's whole channel based on getting not even half of his statements out yet. I can also tell most of them are super biased on BRs as a whole and games such as COD, multiple comments constantly disrespecting the entirety of the Halo franchise and consistently pointing out how he's a "Super Fanboy" towards Halo in general, so you automatically get them not even paying full or any bit of attention to the message as a whole just as when he stated he wanted a BR as well inside Halo Infinite they completely just missed the whole argument in the video as a whole with them saying over and over "this guy always has terrible takes" or "then what was the point this video besides to chase clout". I'm not bashing them with this final sentence but I can tell most of them are trend hoppers with simply implying in the chat "MP games should ship out with BR at this point as so its a necessity for MP games" when BRs have only been popular for like 4-5yrs and is a dying genre, and lastly the whole point they missed with the KZbin is King comment Act Man made saying that "gaming isn't the only thing on KZbin this guys a complete idiot" my reply with that is well Just Chatting does exist on Twitch too so gaming isn't also the ain't pull. In summary I think Act Man made great points in this video and the audience Summit has (and most of these other streamers audience's) won't see it because they let a whole other person/influencer shape they're opinion and they only combat common sense ant good points with negative and toxic responses like children.

I don’t think halo should ever have to change to become more popular it already has its name in the books as one of the best I play halos to get that same feeling I would as a kid turning on the game and if br is added even if I don’t play it I would still know it was there and that to me would take a some of the connection I did as a kid away from a game I love so much we already have enough br games I just want halo the real halo.

Summit isn't wrong. All these comments and perspectives apply more to streams and viewers for streams, not global player base. You can't predict the full extent of how a game will go before release. And even more so what the average player base will be after the initial fascination for new things runs out. I definitely believe there is some sway for players via streams, especially twitch. But as Act Man said, that doesn't quantify the games true popularity. You can only wait and see the stats after a month and see where it is at. With a brand like Halo, there can always be a comeback with some changes if necessary.

I think i've commented this on like every video covering this topic, but this is one of the core reasons a BR cannot happen on launch: BRs cost time and money, and that time and money would be taken from other parts of the game. A BR would quite literally result in content cuts in the multiplayer and/or campaign. That is simply how games work, they have a budget they can't overspend, and a deadline that has to be met. Many might not know this, but Halo 3 actually made some content cuts to work on forge, 6 months before release. It's not a matter of "just don't play the BR mode", because that BR mode will be at the expense of the content we actually want and expect. Post-launch is better time to ask for a BR, because then we'll all have the uncut content we've been asking for.

heres the thing many people dont understand when considering a Halo BR. The halo sandbox doesn't lend itself to to that style of gameplay. Halo is a CQC environment. Wazone, fortnite, apex, and pubg have a relatively massive amount of weapons that while may not be effective at long range can still do damage at long range. Halo doesn't; you are limited to a minute number of weapons that could open an engagement at those ranges.

Battle Royale didn't suddenly add playability to games. Mods and DEDICATED SERVERS did that. There's a reason why Modern Warfare 4 still has players in it to this day, and Half Life, and Half Life 2. I'll tell you, it's not because of a BR.
