Great video! I went on September 2023 to Ecuador, I was feeling nostalgic and saw this and took me back so much (since we visited so many similar places), submitted Chimborazo and Iliniza Sur too, loved your quote about fear, for me it is so exciting feeling this fear, how it makes me so much more aware and careful, but also very appreciate of where I am and who I am with and mainly how lucky I´m to being able to enjoy and practice this sport.

That’s great and glad you were able to reminisce the experience. Definetly appreciative of nature and health; well said

I really loved watching your video of your Chimborazo summit. I was just there two days ago and I hiked up to the lake just past the second base camp (el segundo refugio). All the base camps are closed now because of covid-19 and some local politics, but it was great to back up on Chimborazo again. I'm definitely going to plan a summit in the next few months as it is just too tempting. My first time on Chimborazo was terrible and I also vomited and had bad altitude sickness. This trip 2 days ago however was lovely and it was so peaceful to be back on the mountain. Thanks for sharing the story of your summit. It was very inspiring to watch!!!

Thank you and glad to hear; that’s wild that the refuge is closed. Could you have camped out or gotten a ride up to the refuge?

@@iLMA.v Yes, its been like this for quite a while now. You could easily jut pitch a tent at the base camp if you wanted to. We just drove up in our car and then hiked up to the second base camp. The bicycle tour operators are still functioning along with the mountaineering guides that take you to the summit. Its just a pity to not see the "Refugios" open.

Thanks for the info; can you fill up on water at least at Refugios?

@@iLMA.v I don't think so. You would probably have to bring your own water like we did or melt snow further up. All the bathrooms and buildings are locked up. :(

Hey, I'm climbing Cotopaxi later this year and wanted to know how you managed to record while you climbed. This is awesome btw! Some of the better footage I've seen of people climbing in Ecuador :)

Hey thank you so much! I use my iPhone and during water brakes I sacrifice my fingers to pull out my phone and record snip its. Glad you enjoyed it and don’t forget to have fun.

I intend to do these two in October/November 2024. I have attempted Chimborazo before but only made it to 5,800m. What tips can you give for me to train in the upcoming months before I head out there? Great video, came across it by searching for Cayambe!

Lots of endurance like running and trail running with hills. I enjoy the stair stepper and eventually wear your boots

I loved the video. What guide did you use? I am going to attempt Chimborazo in 2024. I have a bit of experience. I have done the Quiloto Loop and climbed the summit of Cotopaxi. It’s been a few years since I have done any mountaineering. Any training tips?

The guiding company link is in the video description; Fabian and his dad are great and a great price. Endurance and step ups/incline/stair master and then add a pack with weights. Good luck!

Cayambe is located directly atop the equator yet has permanent snow cover, which I find to be mindblowing.

We went mid-November; best advice is to get a guide! You should use the one we used (link above)...it was about $1.5K for two weeks. Worth it!

We climbed on Thanksgiving; we were just having fun on the mixed ice and it was just a single move. Ventimilla summit only; was too tiered for more fun

Despite not being the tallest mountain in the Andes or on Earth, its summit holds the distinction of being the farthest point on Earth's surface from the Earth's center, due to its location along the planet's equatorial bulge.
