Thanks for sharing your story, Rasmus. Hard decision to turn around before reaching the summit, but clever. So very well done!

Great video and great post. I was there back in March and also turned around. This vocano is a beast and a tough slog. I will be back in January 2024 for a second attempt. Thanks for posting.

Did you go back and finish?
@isaacmont36238 ай бұрын
@@wes4619 we went back. Me and 2 of my sons. Sadly . I was burnt out and stayed at high camp to rest. My younger son. Made it to 18900 feet and turned around after vomiting from altitude sickness. My older son did make the summit. So the expedition waa not a total loss. We also summited Cayambe, Anisa Sur and Pinchincha Guagua. Side note. My youngest son is going back in 2 weeks for a third attempt. Lets see what happens.

Great video !!! One day I will climb the volcanoes of my country. Correction: There are no wolves in Ecuador. The animal that ecuadorian guide mentioned is a FOX not wolf. Greetings from NYC.

I tried to climb Chimborazo in 2017 with my Ecuadorian friend. We just drove to the first camp by car and then I instantly walked to second camp and back... Which was silly. Over the night I had intense headache and had to cancel my climb up. Cocao tea helped. Next time I would do it property with spending time at higher altitudes first.
@rasmuspreston6 күн бұрын
Sounds rough man! It is not an easy mountain for sure. When I go back I will climb some of the other lower volcanoes first to acclimatize. Also just to get more out of my trip to Ecuador. It was almost silly to travel all the way there from Denmark just to spend a few miserable days with headache on Chimborazo haha. But I did go to Mexico and flew up Pico de Orizaba directly after. All in all a good trip, and Ecuador is such a beautiful place.

I don't understand why you'd do this without climatizing. This is the first video I've watched of yours. Maybe I'm missing something and this is something you do a lot. I'll check it out. Thanks..... EDIT: What were you thinking?
@rasmuspreston Жыл бұрын
Hi Alex. Thanks for watching. Maybe I should have explained why in the video, haha. Some friends invited me to join the climb, so it was not my decision to have this fast itinerary without acclimatization ;) I decided to join anyway for the adventure. Sure to say it was a learning experience, but I also had a good time exploring my limits. Hope you enjoyed the video.

Thanks for sharing, very well done. Wise decision to go back. May I ask what camera you had for filming (besides your phone)? I'm looking for something that's easy to turn on and off and film appropriately considering the circumstances. Good luck in your next attempt!
@rasmuspreston Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! I used a Sony a7S III with a 24-70 mm 2.8 lens and a GoPro. The phone and GoPro fill the same role, to film when it is too cumbersome to use the bigger camera. Too bad the GoPro also died, but I have upgraded the batteries to some, that should be better for cold weather use now. If I were to shop for something now, I would look at the SONY ZV-E10, the SONY ZV-1 II or the SONY ZV-E1 depending on your budget. There might be good cameras from other brands out there too. Climb on!

@@rasmuspreston Thanks for the recommendation. I think just the go pro will be fine for me for now. I am looking for something simple and not that expensive for my Chimborazo climb. I do however definitely appreciate the higher quality behind the cameras you suggested! Maybe some day down the road!
@rasmuspreston Жыл бұрын
@omarmbareche7897 Sure thing! Look up the winter batteries for the GoPro. They work significantly better. And keep the spare in a chest pocket close to your body to keep it warm. That way it lasts longer

For sure. Next time I will acclimatize and do it proper :) Jumped on this opportunity with some friends who had already planned it, so I didn't have any say on the itinerary.

I wont argue it was stupid. I joined a group of American friends who are sometimes a bit too optimistic with their weekend adventures haha. I decided to give it a shot anyway and learned a ton. And I still enjoyed the trip :)

You were lucky that turning around was all you had to do. 6300 meters without acclimatizing was a foolish enterprise.
