Someone has probably said it already but with your katadyn if you fill it with water and lemon juice and then stick it in the freezer. Once it's frozen take it out and let it defrost normally then tip it out and give it a couple rinse through's the plastic taste goes away completely. Works with water bladders too especially the osprey ones 👍
@SummitOrNothing3 жыл бұрын
Ive heard that works with bladders but the trouble with the katadyn is, the filter itself (which is also the lid) fails when it freezes.

I'm wondering if your Jetboil lid popping off is due to the way you stack the contents? I picked one up and noticed the same thing when I had the burner right side up, the lid needs room to tuck in a bit.
@SummitOrNothing3 жыл бұрын
Well, there's a diagram of how to stack on the side, and at present I'm using a shallower cannister adwrll so everything is a lower inside, so nope, it just always seems to sit half on. Hasn't come off yet though 🤔

Yea, a fairly steep down, that one 😱 great walk though. Cheers for watching!
@dns3832 жыл бұрын
Also nearly went down Grey Crag a couple of years ago with our then 12 year old in tow. Mist had set in just after Red Pike but the path was ok until High Stile and the weather was picking up. Having noticed the route down on the map we decided to abandon and some walkers (in jeans and no bags or anything) were coming up so we, or rather I, figured this was a good way down. With nothing for orientation other than sat nav at this point there were just way too many drops and gulleys and the sat nat was picking up nothing resembling a path so we turned round and back the way we came though it seemed like an eternity at the time. They stayed behind within sight whilst I was trying to find the route by the way. It still gives me shivers thinking about it.

I did the exact same walk just over a year ago and got caught out in red hot weather (wet and cold when I left home), I rang out of water just over half way round (schoolboy error) but I was treated to superb views all day. You were almost right, yes there is another Sour Milk Gill, which we passed on our camping trip but it was to Easedale Tarn not Angle Tarn but dam fine effort! Love Bleaberry Tarn and a perfect place for a swim but gutted for you with the weather that you got in the night and them morning and shame you did not did the 10 minute detour to Dodd, on the way up to Red Pike, so worth it for the views over Crummock Water. Absolutely loved the mist hanging over the tops, such a magical sight. Sorry but I had to LOL at Nath, going on about how chilled he was, nice and relaxed, heart rate down, pack light, having a nice gentle stroll and then nearly goes arse over tit lol. Real pleased you got some canny views from High Crag but pleased I was not descending down there again, as I could not find the right path down and walked down on shingle all the way down - nightmare. Loved the technical terms you used you found in Wainwrights books lol and funny enough Tom Cruise was filming in Buttermere a few weeks back, so....I parked at the farm at the bottom of Fleetwith Pike (where the film crew were), only £4 all day and you can park overnight. Great watch and good to see the weather got better for you, fingers crossed it stays like that for part 2, cheers Alan

The low cloud makes it all the more interesting, but luckily those views still come through. Not heard nath complain about those boots at all, so pretty sure his ankles have been fine. I used to get awful trouble with mine rolling in my berhhaus mid height boot, find it's got to to be either a full ankle height boot or none at all.
