It was very touching hearing you talk about how Dartmoor has changed for you over the years. I feel like we’ve both been on a journey discovering the moor. I can’t believe it’s only been 4.5 years since I first visited. I lost count how many days I’ve been there and how many wild camps I’ve done. I was there last month completing my Hill and Moorland Leader award through Mountain Training and now my sights are set on the mountains so I can get my Mountain Leader award. Thanks for making the videos you do. Like you I started with stuff from Go outdoors and now it’s all MSR, Rab and Mountain Equipment.

That's awesome, Ben. Hope that your Mountain Leader award goes really well. I know what you mean about losing track of the times on the moor. Since its in my doorstep I seem to have got to know it really well, well... the North at least. Thanks for watching!

Great video, thanks. Especially liked it as it seems there aren't a lot of videos of tarp/bivvy camping on Dartmoor, most other people seem to go with conventional tents (even KZbinrs who in other videos of theirs would normally be tarp camping). I had wondered if there was some sort of unwritten rule that for more challenging places like Dartmoor a tarp was considered a bit sub par? I much prefer tarp camping to tent camping, and had hoped to do one on Dartmoor some time this year, so this was encouraging to see.
@SummitOrNothing2 жыл бұрын
Ive done a three or four tarp camps up on the moor before now, I think many people just prefer the tents, but I like to have a bit of a mix up. This was a good time to test my new rab bag and bivvy too, so made sense. Toasty in that kit! Cheers for watching!
@TheSotai2 жыл бұрын
One of the reasons bivi used to be more popular was because it was the ultralight way, but now we have plenty of tents that are ultralight, so the benefits of a bivi have diminished compared to a tent. A good bivi still has the benefit over a tent in warmth.

Great video Trev, stunning scenery and informative. So many channels are just short walk, packet food, review/plug and short walk back. You add humour and do some proper decent hikes 👍 Just had my first wild camp last weekend, inspired by yourself and Nath but at 60+ underestimated the cold a bit! Nice and snug in a sleeping bag but as soon as you need a pee omfg! 😅 Loved the experience though. Never underestimate the effect of the cold on the extremities, it makes cooking and handling of equipment immensely difficult. Keep em coming mate, one day soon will be coming down to dartmoor, best place on the planet, but then Im biased lol

Hi Trev, this was a great little film. The DD 3m tarp set up is a favourite of mine as its so easy and works well. I have been subscribed to you for a while now as I never seemed to be able to get out in the way I wanted to so I looked to you for inspiration and planning. Unfortunately I was involved in a horrible accident at the beginning of the year and lost my right leg so I wont be getting out hiking or camping for a couple of years now, if ever. only time will tell. keep it up mate and I will live vicariously through your adventures for a bit until I can have some of my own. Thanks!

Hi Paul. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It must be heavy breaking and a struggle to come to terms with. However, that being said, many people do find a fight within themselves during such traumatic and devastating changes in their lives. You often hear of people achieving so much with prosthetic limbs, so I hope that you can eventually get back to some normality. In the meantime though, I am glad that ypu have been enjoying our videos, and stay tuned this weekend as we have a bit of exciting news that although not as ideal as actually getting out there yourself, may be even better for you.... its all a little enigmatic I know buy hopefully by Sunday all will be revealed. Anyway, take care, sir, I hope that your position improves, and thanks again for watching and getting in touch. Cheers!

I agree that you don't need to buy top end to enjoy yourself outdoors, whether hiking or camping, especially through the summer months. Another very well presented video Trevor .. most enjoyable to watch, especially tucked up in a warm bed with a cuppa. I've always fancied the idea of trying a bivi camp, on the face of it, the weight saving could be great, but as you have done, by the time you add the tarp and the two poles it's probably no saving at all .. anyway, the tent seems a lot more cosy. It looks as if you and Rab are going to be best buddies .. you were always the budget kinda guy ... you would think you'd been to a Rab factory recently. 😁

Awesome video Trev! Looked like a helluva hike. Cool tarp tent too. .. also listened to your movie pod cast (star wars) I'm with you on that one! Prefer sequels over prequels for same reasons. Though the clone wars/rebels have some fantastic storytelling in later seasons. .. ps, couldn't find the volume button on the podcast doohickey

Hi Micky, thanks so much for watching (and listening). Is a decent little tarp set up, is that, and that dip made it so much more spacious. Loved it, cheers!

Fantastic vid as always, nothing better than thinking up an adventure and getting on and doing it. I did the WR bivvy out, first time using a bivvy as well, think I would have preferred it in the summer tbh but you got to try these things eh! Cheers for giving me a couple more places to add to my Dartmoor must visit ticklist 👍

Yea - I reckon they could smash the record if attempted in july. Was a shame to have missed it though. Thanks for watching! Glad that you enjoyed it! Cheers!

Another great video, that walk up to Widgery cross from the car park is a killer. Bivi camping is a great experience done 3 over winter around South Devon but will be using the tent up on Dartmoor this week I think as taking the lightweight sleeping bag and th e protection from the wind really makes a diffrence. Out of interest how do you find the bag? Thinking of spending a little and upgrading the eurohike bag. Cheers for all the videos and the effort that goes into them.

Yea that hill took it right out of me. Actually my pace was down for the majority if the walk, but I don't do this to race anyway. Are you asking about the bivvy or the sleeping bag. I was kept warm and dry throughout the night so I guess they both do their job well. Te bivvy is impressive that it packs down smaller than a pack a mac. Cheers for watching!

@@SummitOrNothing sorry meant the backpack should have been clearer. Whatched your other bag reviews but this one takes my fancy.

Enjoyed this one Trev as with all your videos - me and wife visited Black tor and used the flat rock just to back of your tarp as our kitchen 👍😁 was tough going under foot to get there and both thought it would be much better once ‘they’ had cut the grass - any idea what time of year they head out with the mowers Trev? 😬🤔

Haha... yea, grey must go out about three times a week come summer 🤣. Thanks for letting me pitch in your kitchen

Great vid Trev, you must add some distance walking away from the camera, then back to get it.....I'm getting worn out thinking about it. lol.

Absolutely - a lot of additional miles involved. But I cant not capture those shots. Gorgeous... even with me in haha!

Looked a good set up there Trev. Still prefer tents if I'm honest . Definitely want to sample that side of the moors for a wildcamp. Looked stunning

The tarp is surprisingly enjoyable, especially having the gear to go with it and keep you toasty. You should definitely aim to get on the North Moor for a camp. It's bloody awesome.

Great video, your knowledge of the moor shining through. I see you were "all Rab'd up! You mentioned about rain pooling in the dip, wouldn't cold air do the same?
@SummitOrNothing2 жыл бұрын
That is a valid point, I didnt think much about to be honest. I was lovely and toasty down there though all well. Rather cold than wet. Cheers for watching!

Tarp bivvy is fine when there are no ticks and no midges. In those temps your sleep mat and sleep bag/bivvy combo will be key to comfort. That software looked ideal for planning and on the ground as backup to paper mao, compass.
@SummitOrNothing2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Jimmy. Yea there are plenty of ticks on Dartmoor (so far I haven't discovered any). And I have to agree with you that I perhaps wouldn't have enjoyed this caml as much in my old set up. The sleeping pad and down bags have made those winter nights far more enjoyable. Thanks for commenting and sorry about the late reply.

What's the story of that cabin at fordsland ledge? Is it a private hut, a phone mast thing, or something for hiker safety?
@Foxtrottangoabc2 жыл бұрын
If u mean that metal grey thing , tge area is an army range , so they use those huts for observations and stuff when exercises are on
