Today I am trying to get my layout up and running so we all can see some trains moving. But I haven´t anticipated the amout of resistance I would experience. It started by the missing battery for my leaf blower which made me pick up all the debry by hand. Then nearly all of my switches malfunction and last but not least I had to solve a problem with my track cleaning wagon. After 5 hours of hard work I was able to run a few trains before nightfall.

Ah, life in our small train worlds. I feel your frustration with the glitches you experienced! However, you appear to be an excellent problem solver and do not hesitate to take on challenges. It is nice to see the behind-the-scenes reality of garden railroading. No sense sugar coating this. All of that aside, it was nice to see the beautiful motion in your garden layout. Your gentle hand-formed curves really add to the realism and are a sight to behold! Thank you! 👍

Awesum video. Thanks for sharing the good, bad and the ugly bits - it makes me feel much better about when stuff doesn’t work as planned on my railway.

Loved seeing the trains running on the layout. I hope the switch issue is easy to fix. Night time running session was stunning. A lot of work to date and I really hope you enjoyed using your layout and running some trains. Cheers Tim

Excellent. You must get the track inspectors to give your mother a good 'Clucking to' for high tailing it with vital railroad battery's. 😄 Maybe you could modify a flat bed wagon to hold the leaf blower and run it in front of the cleaning wagon. You may need teo loco's to counter the effect of the blower. The two locomotives look really nice.

It's nice to finally see and hear the rewards of outdoor layout track maintenance. I feel your pain in the switch malfunctions. Very frustrating. I was wondering if the leaf blower would blow the roadbed ballast away with the leaves. Probably was best to pick the leaves as you did. 5 hours is way too long to prepare track to run trains. Hope you can close the prep time down to an hour or so. For that reason, I converted my locomotive to RC/battery power several years ago. I was tired of cleaning the track for good continuity. Now just do a track inspection, maybe run my rail broom car around the layout, and fire up the locos. Running trains in a few minutes. I get 3 to 4 hours of run time on the batteries. You should look into this. It would also make a good video on your conversion projects. The layout looks AWESOME! Now you want to enjoy the operations. All the best! Ron//

Sorry about the technical issues, but seeing trains running was great, and the station areas with all the lights looks fantastic. What a beautiful job and layout. The trains looks wonderful, running along in the dark with all the bright lights and sound. Well done! You may want to have a chat with the track inspectors and see if they have any ideas on what went wrong?? ;-)

solution to switchs not working, circuit boards and water don't mix. I suggest manual switchs for outdoor rail. Just a thought.

I have watched your videos from the very beginning. It’s a fabulous layout, but I’m curious as to why you didn’t go with radio control/battery power with the large size? Thank you, it’s been a great series. My name is Tom Rey and I live in San Diego,California. My layout is RC/battery.

Quite a lot of work, but your layout does look great! I wonder though, I assume that you considered both track powered trains and battery powered, what where the main reasons to go for track powered over battery? and in situations like this, do you regret not going the battery powered route or isn't it really an issue?
