Can u tell you tell me how you got the four screws for the motor mount screwed in or on the kayak without cutting a big hole to tighten them
@NiteWolfeFishing5 жыл бұрын
I used a special kind of nut called jack nuts. You just have to drill a hole a little bigger than the actual bolt. In this case i used 1/4-20 bolts and the hole for the jack nut was 1/2 in. You put the jack nut in the hole and then tight down the bolt. As it tightens the part of the jack nut that is inside expands and opens up to pinch the hull back like tri-rivets do. I have used them a lot in working on trucks like installing side mirrors or things into a tailgate. If you do a web search for jack nuts youll find plenty. You could also use well nuts which is a rubber version of a expanding nut. Both designed for when you do not have access to the back side.
@Internetpilot5 жыл бұрын
I'm not NiteWolfe, but when I did something similar with a rudder in my Perception kayak (that wasn't rudder ready...at all), I actually did just drill another hole in the kayak tankwell for tightening the lock nuts. I just strategically drilled it to the correct size and position to put another drainplug in the hole. You can get a drain plug kit for like $4 or usually something like 2 for $7. When you're done using the hole for tightening the nuts, just install the drain plug kit. Looks like it's meant to be there, and it's not actually a bad thing to have more than one drain plug if you ever get water in your kayak. If you do it this way, it can be easier working through such a relatively small hole to put the bolts on the inside of the kayak and the nuts on the outside.
@NiteWolfeFishing5 жыл бұрын
@@Internetpilot I am actually goingot add 2 more drain plugs to mine. One on each side. Got the idea from a lifetime yukon i seen. Drain plugs in the side at the wideest point. That way you can drain it by rolling it on its side instead of having to lift it on its end. But as far as for bolting things down that dont have back access. Check out well nuts and jack nuts. They are designed for just that. jack nuts are all metal and well nuts are rubber. Both work well. I find jack nuts to be more sturdy.

if you flipped your kayak would all you electronics get fried?
@NiteWolfeFishing4 жыл бұрын
I have breakers on it all. The fish finder is safe since its designed to get wet. The motor is sealed as is the controller. he action cams are in waterproof cases. My phone goes int oa floating waterproof phone case. So really the only chance of that would be the front dash panel which as said have a fuse. But i suspect the panel would get wreaked from just the water. But its a 9 buck panel i could easy replace. I have not even come close to flipping this thing yet. But it is always on my mind. I am thinking of making my own version of a expandacraft runner for the left side. and move the battery into that. maybe a project for this winter.

Got the measurements for the bracket under the seat?
@NiteWolfeFishing4 жыл бұрын
I am so sorry its taken me this long on what should be a simple request. No i dont have any measurements.Its going to be a while till i can even read ruler again. Until my cataract surgery i an basicly legally blind. I am typing on font size 36 on high contrast settings lol. But i am not really sure measurements would help. I didnt use any when i made it. What i am going to do is tell you HOW i did it. Using the existing plastic seat bracket as a template i made 4 matching plates (2 for each side) one to go up and one to go down.I made these over long some. I then mounted the seat bracket and the new plates. remember on each side one steal plate on the out side going up and one on the inside going down. With these in place i top the outside and inside steel flat bar ( cut over sized also but eye ball close) and put the up against the steel brackets i had made. Using a steel caulk pen i marked on the brackets where the flat bar hit them. Removed the brackets and cut the on the mark. Re installed them. Now it is important to note i am a highly experanced welder and took tons of precuations on the next step. I lined the hull with my welding blankets so protectthe plastic, The i putthe outside and inside flat bar against the steel brackets and tack welded them in place.. Removed it all and welded it all up out on my bench. See why i didnt have to or want to use measurement? This way i KNEW every thing would fit since it was tacked while in place. Going back in the fit was perfect and everything lined up. Once all that was done i welded the steel tube to the top of the outside flat bar. Once again i just eyeballed it. Its a bad habit of mine, i tend to do a lot by feel and eyeball. I seldom draw anything out. I tendto design and build in my mind till i have the idea where i want then i just transform the real marterial into what my mind sees. Its how i build the diy kayaks on my page. no plans were drawm. no tape measure was ever used. I tried to describe how i design to my wife once. The best i can expalin it is i do what Tony Stark did with Jarvis, Since i dont have a high tech 3d rendering computer (does any one?) i do it on the best rendering computer ever made.. The human mind. I can sit back close my eyes andpicture the finished item. the peel it back layer by layer, piece by piece to study it all in detail. By the time i get to actually making something its been done a thousandtimes in my head step by step. So all i have to do is have my hands match what my mind saw. Hope that answered your question or at least helped. And once again i am sorry itstake me so long. I have 4 or 5 more mods waiting on my eyesto be fixed before i can do them.
