Do you know any facts about the sun other than it lights up our world? Your kids should get a little bit deeper and should know some of the important facts related to the sun. Here are some interesting facts about the sun which we have brought up in this video:
1- Did you know that the sun's core is around 13,600,000 Celsius? That's one piece of information for the kids to start getting more informative about the sun with.
2- When you come to ask the kids about the things they know about the sun, one of the answers you will receive is that it is a big thing out in the sky, and even though they say so because that's what they believe, the sun is actually the largest thing in our solar system, it makes up around 99.86% of the solar system's mass.
3- Actually the sun is very important since it keeps the stars, the planets, and the earth working just perfectly as they should and keep them in their orbits, because without the gravity of the sun, the earth will keep spinning off in the space.
4- Did you know that the sun is old? Or at least old enough for it to just start as a cloud? Actually the sun is 4.5 billion years old, it all started as a cloud of dust and gas then it slowly formed a massive center and gained heat that is made up of hydrogen and helium gases.
5- The sun light reaches the earth in 8 minutes and this is what we know as the speed of light.
6- This is one of the most interesting sun facts for kids which would help in keeping them excited about the whole thing and which is that the sun is 865,000 miles, and this would be 1,392,000 kilometers, wide. This means that the sun is about 110 times wider than the earth's diameter. To make it easier for the kids to imagine the sizes of the sun and earth, you could give them an example on the different types of balls and this would mean that the sun will be the size of a beach ball, while Jupiter will be the size of a golf ball, and the earth will be as small as a ping ball.
7- When it comes to the distance, you might be interested to know the distance between the sun and the earth, and in this case we have to say that the distance between the sun and the earth is 93,205,678 miles or 150,000,000 kilometers from the earth.
8- When it comes to knowing more about the sun, it is interesting that your kids know that the sun has a very strong magnetic field. There are things called the magnetic storms and solar flares which happen when the magnetic energy is released by the sun. We see these as sun spots, but the magnetic lines are all twisted up and they spin just like a tornado ( • What is a Tornado? How... ).
9- All the coal, the gas and other things could actually keep the sun burning for a lot of days, and this shows how much energy this massive star creates.
10- This is the last piece of information about the sun that the kids should know about. The sun has circled the milky way galaxy only 20 times since it was formed over 4.6 billion years ago.

When it comes to the world of science and the things that are surrounding us in our everyday life - or those which are helping in our existence, such as the earth - it would be considered beneficial to educate the kids about them and let them know more information about the whole thing.
