There was very much more to the American Revolutionary War, than is ever shown in movies. 1) Financial: The 7 years war with France had left Britain almost bankrupt. 2) World War: Britain found itself at war not just with the colonies, but also with France, Spain and Holland. All whilst fighting a major conflict in India. A combined Spanish and French fleet attempted to land on England’s South Coast in 1779. The biggest battle of the war was the Spanish attempt to retake Gibraltar in 1780. 3) Trouble at home: The revolution came close to spreading to England. Politician and Soldier Earl Fitzwilliam built a monument overlooking the town of Rotherham called Boston Castle to commemorate the Boston Tea Party. Many soldiers especially here in Yorkshire refused to fight what they saw as fellow Englishmen fighting for English ideals of Goverment. It was this internal threat of revolution that forced the Goverment,s decision, not to send more troops to America.

@@MegaGator39 It could be! The actual battle was never mentioned in the various local news articles at the time but there was a mention of the reservoir in the background standing in for the Delaware river. Some of the youngsters in the area were employed as Redcoats and they said they expected to be given wooden muskets but instead they were given real ones and taught how to load and fire them in the battle scenes. The scenes right after the battle where the British march into the town was filmed in Kings Lyn in Norfolk with dirt and debris swept over the road kerbs to hide the modern double yellow lines (no parking indicators) If I remember rightly, I think the final scenes on the beach were filmed near Bigbury on the south Devon coast (Burgh Island and its hotel were also used for the Poirot TV series years later "Murder under the sun"!)

The British Empire was one of the most sublime creations in the history of this entire planet. It opened up vast areas of the Earth to trade and commerce. It stopped Indians from burning helpless women, Africans from eating each other, Afghans from shagging their goats and various other bits of rubbish to respect their betters. It brought some of the most backward and remote regions on many continents into the twentieth century as part of a world wide community and bequeathed to many a legacy of democracy and rule of law. It is interesting to see that those ex colonies that have embraced their colonial legacy have thrived and those that have wilfully destroyed it have reverted to primitive despotism and poverty far worse than anything experienced when part of the Empire. Of course, all of the left wing, liberal subversives would have everyone believe different, after all, successful colonialism is not part of their ideological narrative. Tough shit, the facts speak for themselves. Look at India, Canada and Australia then look at Ghana, Burma and Zimbabwe and say that I am wrong.

Many of those colonies in Africa and the Middle East are destabilized because of the British. Many of the countries formed after the fall of the British empire were formed without taking into account the many different native groups within that had a long history of violence and hatred. Although the British did bring modern technology and did make improvements in some of these cultures, they also looked down on other cultures and people in their empire as inferior and treated them as lesser. You are correct in saying the British empire brought some good, however I would hardly call it successful colonialism.

Very interesting article about the difference between the French and British during Napoleonic wars, the French infantry, large, bearded , long haired and adorned with looted gold jewellery looked Scarey and would advance screaming and shouting and gesticulating at the Brits, however the very fact the Brits stood silent and unmoving nearly always stalled the French from charging into them because this completely un-nerved them, once in range the Brits fired one volley then it was the bayonet a weapon they loved to use and which broke many an attack.

Yep that we call it the American War of Independence but Yanks call it the American Revolutionary War. It started at Lexington in 1775 and ended with the treaty of Paris in 1783 two years after final battle at Yorktown. The War of 1812 was the last war between us Brits and the Yanks lasted from 1812 till 1815 not long after Battle of Waterloo in Europe. We captured and burned Washington DC & the Presidential Palace, the building was burnt and too greyish so they built it then painted it white to hide the dirty grey. That's why it was famously called the White House. They tried to invade Canada and annex it but the British beaten them out of Canada. Funny that it was filmed here in the UK so not looked like a American landscape for the war in the New World.

A daft way to fight a war, having said that, the Empire continued to grow and Britain was the worlds most powerful country right up to 1900. The colonial war created a new country, the USA but it was the French that made the difference to the outcome of that conflict. The colonists lost nearly every battle but the French gift of something like... 77 war-ships and men along with the weeks it took to reinforce British troops due to 3,000- miles of sea and slow sailing ships. The whole thing was rather odd, it was really the British colonists fighting British troops, a sort of civil war.

Everyone who says that they would rather hide behind a rock and fire that way is speaking about using the high-velocity rifled weapons of today. The Brown Bess that they were using back then could hit SOMEWHERE within a 10 foot circle, at 100 yards. Taking an aimed shot was a waste of time. Volley firing was the only way to inflict damage... they werent aimed shots... they were simply only able to put alot of lead downrange.

@@JordZz1981 That's just an opinion. As a Spaniard i consider the best history is in Spain, China and Egypt(although i like all)... In terms of war it's objective, I don't remember the exact number but vs England and France Spain winned more (VS THEM, NOT in total). British is good with propaganda, that's why a lot of people think that they had a great empire, but if you check history close...well. That empire in my opinion sucks. The british empire always had envy of the spanish empire, they even copy the phrase "sun never sets...", or they accuse Spaniards of slavery and killing, etc; Idk if you heard about the Black Legend, even the battle of trafalgar it's total lose for brits and they say it's a victory XD and they hide numbers of deaths etc (you only have to do a profound search for all this...) They even say they had the longest war (100 years) and in Spain the reconquista vs the moors lasted over 800 years. Like i said, that's the difference between british empire and, for example, spanish empire. Brits exalt their victories, change defeats for victories, change their history, and "claim to be the best", while others respect the truth and are more humble with their actions. Humility, is what the British lack and respect. What do you think of my analysis? Do you consider it correct? ^^

"Revolution," 1985. Filmed in Kings Lynn. The British won 10 of the 14 pitched battles in the American War of Independence. The rebellious British colonists were helped by the Netherlands and France. Half of all British officers refused to go and serve in the rebellion because they thought a better accommodation could have been found.

Phillipe was never "King of England", his marriage to Mary I did not give him "Kingship". ie, Right to Rule. He never passed a Law, never issued a Decree, never gave an Order. He was "married" to the Queen, jure uxoris King of England. "jure uxoris" meaning By Right of Wife. He holds the Title King Consort, a courtesy title without Land, Property or Rights. This is easily seen in history, as when Mary died, Phillipe did not take the throne.
