Skin cancer is no hoax. My aunt died of melanoma and several friends of mine also. I have had several basal cell cancers removed and one squamous cell cancer. I see a dermatologist on a regular basis who is also a fisherman. Great informative video John. Thanks for that. Take care.

Must haves!! Gloves are great, but they do have drawbacks, hooks are the worse. Wet dries if it doesn't bother you. I can't do shorts, I burn too easily. Thank you John for the great tips!!

3:40 -- I couldn't agree more. Great video! I've seen other people on youtube (Smallmouthcrush) claim skin cancer is a hoax and that sunscreen is dangerous. I'm glad not everyone is as ignorant as that guy.

SKIN CANCER!!!!! This is a very good topic. Glad you made the video! People are not aware of how much damage the sun does to you skin until its too late. I discovered a sore on my chest about ten years ago that would not heal, kept getting bigger. Dermatologist had to cut it out, stitched it up and I have had 6 month visits ever since. They used to find and remove (scrape or cut) 5, 6, 7 cells at a time, the last couple visits maybe 1 or 2 because I protect myself more now. I consider myself lucky, some people have partial nose, ears removed. I use the protective clothing you talk about and I have no problem (prefer) using the Neutrogena SPF 100 especially on my nose, top of ears, back of hands. I try to wear the gloves, but they're like magnets to the hooks!! If you want to avoid the pain, doc appointments(time off the water 🤣), med bills! Follow John's advise!! People (all skin types) need to be aware! Thanks for the video John!

I'm kind of with Smallmouth Crush on the sunscreen, a lot of it contains toxins, but I use it. Gloves are a must. Keeps fish smell off your hands. 😁

I like to cover up , as much as possible. Good glasses are smart. Can’t get use to the gloves.

Don't use sun screen, not because of the "evil" things in it, I just hate applying it because no matter how I do it. at some point it ends up in my eyes. Plus, its just a pain to reapply, especially when your sweaty. I wear the Striker long sleeve shirts, which are good as are the pants. For the hat I wear a Shelta. Only one I've found that I can keep on my head even while running WOT. As far the "gator", the ones that are used by bikers are perfect. Very light and I use the balaclava kind and they come with a very long fit that even comes down over your shoulders and just enough of an eye slot for full vision and cost about $5. Any polarized sunglasses will work. I use Waterlands strictly because when they came out they were half off PLUS they gave you an additional 30% off with their pimps discount.

For gloves, even though I have a variety (including Striker, which suck by the way) but I prefer the Buff elites. Best I've found so far.

I'm a Visor guy myself. Learn from the Golfers, they are in the sun all day as well. Visor!

Always wear a hat the sun will damage your hair so bad from long days on the water
