Sun VS Earth - Short Film VFX

Short film Visual Effects done in Softimage & Nuke
The City (& Clouds shots) were camera projections from single hires pictures rendered with SI's HQ Viewport with transparency reflections and bump, and imported into Nuke (3D) for some elements, passes (and fixes)
The sun is a displaced sphere with an elaborate procedural texture and ICE particle ejections (no fluids) coming off of it.
Earth/moon shading was essentially done in Nuke based on an MR RenderTree counterpart, using antialiased OpenGL pixel shading outputs from XSI (Cloud/Land/Water diffuse/flat-shading/specular/matte passes)
Matte painting backgrounds, the buildings destruction, the backdrop of each building allowing camera movement, and various elements done in Photoshop.
Soundtrack is a joint composition by the electronic band Underworld and film score composer John Murphy for the movie Sunshine (used in this VFX demo and not in the actual short)

As a child we all hated our parents for not doing what we wanted, and now that I grew up I realized how much work my dad does for us abroad to pay the family, how much my mom helps me in my homework she can't even get any sleep, she atleast works till the morning she only sleeps for about 3 or less hours and back to work in helping me. You should see why you shouldn't hate your parents, because they care for you, comfort you with love. If you hate your parents, the time they pass away you'll see your parents sacrifice towards you oh and side note when you're parents and you think, "I should've loved my parents before they passed away". this is heartbreaking, not because the earth is dying, because their wouldn't be anything living on it at that time... but because the entity that has nurtured us for so long is dying a horrible death. there is a site called the stellar organism which shows the similarities between stars and carbon based life, stars are very much like giant gaseous life forms... this video makes you want to weep for the sun itself. its once yellow spherical body now warped and bloated, the molten plasma like blood spilling out of the suns tormented form. dead patches of blackening gas like covering the dying entity like a necrotic blight. it makes it look like the sun is crying and screaming in distress, maybe even agony. a gaseous being in such distress that its ripping itself apart. its form pulsating and throbbing like a dying heart in its final agonized throes. that something so benevolent and beautiful becomes so stricken and hideous. its gaseous veins bulging and rupturing as its body swell and surface contorts. the sun so damaged that it accidentally destroys the earth just trying to keep itself alive. its almost like the terror we feel when we see our star die and the earth burn, and the agony that any burning beings feel, is what the sun itself is feeling as its bloated body gasps for its last breath and rips itself apart. its truly as heartbreaking as it is terrifying.
