The UK prime minister held a surprise press conference inside 10 Downing Street after a divisive bill drove the immigration minister, Robert Jenrick, to resign.

Sunak laid out plans for the government's new legislation regarding its Rwanda scheme, after human rights laws had blocked flights from leaving. Sunak said the bill had addressed concerns after the supreme court commented on conditions in Rwanda 18 months ago. 'It is unequivocally safe,' he said. The prime minister added that under the latest bill, successful reasons behind challenging the scheme would be 'vanishingly rare'.

I urge people to read the small print on this deal, the two major ones that jump out are. 1, we have to accept people from Rwanda into the UK 2, If immigrants do 5 years prison time in Rwanda, they can be deported back to the UK. This wont work!

Maybe he believes a migrant can be classified as illegal without assessment, although only he possesses that skill. But now I think of it, if someone enters the country illegally (by sailing in secretly, for example), they are immediately an illegal migrant, irrespective of any other factors, are they not?

@@matthewjay5695 actually no, by our own human rights law and by our refugee convention arriving by such means is perfectly legal (the people doing the smuggling are very much criminals though) it only becomes illegal if they fail to announce themselves to the authorities, it's why government operated legal asylum routes are required for the proper function of the asylum process and why people arriving on boats has become such an issue since our country closed those routes Whether you want to change those laws or not is a different question (I would hope you like having rights as much as i) but that is our legal framework, one we helped create with our friend's in the ECHR

I suspect politicians and others like to fudge meanings of words to generate an emotional response, rather than an intelligent one. Nonetheless, one clearly can, by legal definition, be illegal without any further assessment, albeit in more restricted circumstances than is perhaps implied.

This bill is not about illegal immigrants. It's about asylum seekers. Accepting asylum seekers, people running for their lives, is an integral part of humanitarian law, which Britain had a part in writing after WWII, and which we agreed to follow. Poland, like every European nation, has to abide by humanitarian law. However, since it is a part of the EU, Poland can negotiate with other EU member states how to distribute the number of asylum seekers among themselves.
