Very pragmatic discussion. I thank you for bringing Real life hindrances a self taught might face. However, what I missed in your video is that as you are vast experienced could you pleaze what the basics or the fundamentals that every beginner should learn in common irrespective of which data scientist post/ position s/he might choose in future? Can you name a program/ training that could help achieve the basics/ fundamentals? Perhaps I missed out your earlier Vidz where you focused on this issues. I would again request you.

For being self taught one has to be very disciplined and take challengings tats only way to self evaluate during self teaching... Develop small projects n scale them up

I'm a self-taught Data Analyst and have been working in the field for over 2 years now. Yes, self teaching is hard, but it also has its benefits. As she mentioned in the beginning even after doing the courses sometimes I'll still struggle with the code. Will have to Google a lot in the 1st 6 months. Slowly the googling reduced, pace increased and I can write cleaner code (don't write fancy codes, write easy to understand code which can also be debugged easily if required) eg. I use temp tables in SQL in place of sub-queries. Learning method :- 1. Reading is faster than watching Videos. (Because I tend to zone out while watching courses. 😅) 2. Solve Hackerrank problems, it'll give you confidence on the topic. (Even if you successfully solve the problem in a certain way, still look at other solutions and learn from it) 3. Do few Capstone projects on every new language or tool you learn. I did 2 in SQL, 2 in Python, 1 in Power BI and 1 in Tableau. LASTLY REMEMBER THAT IT WILL TAKE TIME, IT'S SUPPOSED TO TAKE TIME, YOU'LL GET BETTER AT IT SLOWLY. KEEP GRINDING. ALL THE BEST 😊

@@nancyihechu900 That is something that varies from person to person. But I personally don't think that the Techical skills (SQL , Python, Power BI, Tableau) requires more than 300-400 hrs of effort. So probably 2 hrs/day for 6 months should be enough to get you to a good level. All the Best. :)

I don't agree at all. First, you are not a surgeon or machinist, the only thing you need for work is a computer. Second, your only argument is a lack of practice. But you can make your own practice projects, just find/scalp/generate data. If you need someone to give you a task and can't come yourself with something, you will be a bad professional. I did my PhD thesis in mechanical engineering 5 years ago and 90% of all useful and smart things I learned myself from books and articles. Other 10% I could had learned in 6 months without wasting 2 years for master. University degree gives you time (you spend your free time as you wish and not learning something else) and network. Self-teaching gives you flexibility. 1st is definitely good. 2nd is definitely good also.
