Can't agree more at the comments here! But...tempo definitely defines not only the beauty but also the topic of the hymns making them meaningful! It's not easy to translate by an instrument the intention of an author but with good effort and diligence can be done better and better!

Thank you once again for the joy. Thank you, too, for the personal glimpses. My dad bought my mom a piano (spinet) instead of an engagement ring. That is mine now. Over the years he provided a piano for each of my 3 sisters. Piano lessons were also not an option, although he let me quit at 16. I also appreciate that someone stressed posture. No, playing the piano shouldn’t hurt. Kudos to whomever taught you that, and may you have a long and profitable ministry.

One thing i miss is being the church pianist, it’s funny when i used to play for church i would improvise around the chords adding my own fill-ins making it sound full and broad, and when i left they asked for some music of the hymns only to find out its only the 4 part choir music i had everything was improvised. Good memories. I love your playing too

If memory serves me correctly, the original name of the song requested as "Jerusalem" is actually called "The Holy City." I remember as a young girl attending Billy Graham Crusades here in Houston and hearing this beautiful song sung by George Beverly Shea. It is one of my favorites. Thank you for playing the chorus! Another favorite sung by Mr. Shea was "I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked."
@fionaramsay95594 жыл бұрын
In the UK if Jerusalem is asked for it always refers to Parry/Blake (And did those feet in ancient times...) Guess it depends where the requestee is from. You're right though, the correct title for the piece played is The Holy City.

Thanks for the Awakening Chorus - that was about the right speed and reminded me of the days when our little group of singers in Stanmore (UK) used to sing it: it was challenging! 1) "I Will Sing of My Redeemer" has an interesting story. The text was found in P.P. Bliss' satchel after he perished in a train wreck; his friend James McGranahan wrote the tune. Wikipedia link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Bliss 2) "Stepping in the Light" is a great favorite at our church here in the Philippines - fun to sing, and it teaches a great message.
