Nice ! I actually just sold my tonex and bought the Nux amp academy. Tonex is just so complicated for me though I'm tech savvy but I want a simpler rig live. Great video BTW

Yeah, I had the same experience. Very difficult navigating through the menu's and saving presets. Glad you liked the video, thanks!

I get really good results with my AA, however the latest update is full of bugs, so backup all your previous versions, you can revert if needed. I would like the AC-30 but I run the Dr.Z with an AC-30 2x12" IR instead, as the latest update f... up my presets.
@Monkcustom8 ай бұрын
Did you check the firmware again? The AA latest FW should be fine currently.
@paullensvelt93858 ай бұрын
Yeah, the update is messy, I agree. Maybe they will do a new version very soon. Lots of people are complaining about it. For now, it runs fine in the A section. The B section is messed on my Nux pedal. Doesn’t allow me to tweak and store the higher gain amps. Meh… 🫤

Nice comparison. I have a Nux Amp Academy and its a great unit. Sure there is things that sound better, but whatever. Nice Santana!

amp sim on the NUX is good but the default IR on NUX isn’t good
@paullensvelt93858 ай бұрын
That is true! That’s why I put my own IR in there. And also, if you switch presets with different IR’s, your tone jumps al over the place. Treat it like an amp, I would say. One amp, one cab, one mic.

I got the amp academy for getting a good range of sounds for guitar demos. It sounds good, but not out of the box. It’s quick and easy to dial in great sounds with the software but to really transform it then I got a few York audio IRs which are leagues above the standard chop tones ones. I got the York bassman and matchless sets for cleans and the creamback and hiwatt packs for dirt and now this thing sounds awesome.

This is exactly what I did. The York stuff makes a HUGE difference for sure.

@@tonepoet Uploading your own IR’s was the deal breaker for me to buy the NUC Amp Academy. I also have some York IR’s, they work great indeed!

@@paullensvelt9385 Too few people take the time to actually set the thing up. The amp models sound great, and using either the send and return for time-based effects or right out of the output from the Amp Academy, it all sounds really great. I couldn't be happier.

I came to the same conclusion after using both live. I think I’m just going run the Tonex in stomp mode and use it for select drive pedals or amp sounds that I want to turn on or off.

Have you tried the UA Lion?
@paullensvelt93858 ай бұрын
No, not yet! I should try it one of these days. I am torn in between vintage tones and modern tones, at the moment. Because I like hot rodded Marshall’s, but not too scooped. And the UA Lion, is a bit to vintage, for what I’ve heard so far.

Hi. When you go to your gigs, you take your cabinet togheter (an FRFR cabinet for exemple), or you have a stage monitor, special for that? Second option, you are confident enough to plug it direct in line/PA System? I owned a NUX Academy, and for DAW recording, or playing with phones, I've getting awesome results. Tks bro.

Just taken delivery of an NGS6. Manual implies it is just plugged in and links to PC, DAW and Editor app. It doesn't ! None of those recognised the unit. Tried updating drivers but that didn't help. Took me half a day any several emails to the supplier and NUX before finding out that I had to ignore the message on the software updater that says the NGS6 could not be detected before updating the firmware. Why do I have to do that anyway? Surely the supplier - Artist -and/or NUX should ship a turnkey product. It's not for Customers to make things work! After updating and trying many combinations within the editor found that NO combination was to my liking. The only good thing about the NGS6 is that it is a nice clear i/f into my Reaper DAW. Otherwise I don't like it at all!

I have experienced that the best way to get a good consistent sound, is to find an Impulse Response that you gravitate towards. That is 50% of your sound that is not interchangeable. In my personal experience, the Tonex did not sound the way I wanted it to sound good with my favourite Impulse Response. So, that’s why I sold it. This favourite IR work with all the other platforms really well: Neural DSP, ML Sound Lab, external pedals. But just not with the Tonex. But it did sound good with the Amp Academy. Even with the Jim’s 45, my own IR sounds to me better than the stock IR. But yes, lots of people are moving towards Tonex. I have tried it, it’s not for me. See if you can try it extensively before you buy it. The Nux Amp Academy is worth considering.

@@paullensvelt9385 thank you so much for your reply and for going deeper into why you didn't like the Tonex. One question , I saw a guy saying that it doesn’t make any sense a send/return loop in a modeler and he explains why the ToneX doesn’t have one. Do you use the send and return port in the amp academy? Does it make a difference using the port/jack for that vs putting all your effects in the same chain? Thank you again for honest review.
