My dad raised me alone from the age of 18 months. He loved Johnny and had all his records. I as a young little girl at maybe age 8 in the late 60s would come home from school and listen and sing along. Dad passed away last year and I miss him so much and more when I hear Johnny.

One of the all time favourite songs of my life. I have lived it, I have sung it and I have loved it all through my meandering, wandering glorious life. Thank you Kris K. For this wonderful anthem that has been a soundtrack to my life. The sun is fading but others will come in the new dawn. Perhaps none though, as great as you, sir.

You will never see talent like this on the same stage again. Waylon, Willie, Johnny, and Kris all playing and singing together. The background music is beautiful. The harmonica player adds so much to the song. Great job all you musicians! You all know how to play your instruments. I'm sure you all worked hard, but God gave you all a talent that many people don't have. I'm glad I wasn't born deaf so I could hear such great music from all of you. Well done!

This is no doubts a masterpiece of song writing, and Kris is one of the greatest ever. But this makes me think that he doesn’t get enough credit as a singer. He may not have the clearest voice or widest range, but he was able to transport the atmosphere of the song perfectly.

I know what you mean but it is probably as much due to a lack of awareness from many that he actually is a songwriter to begin with, and/or that people know his songs from numerous artists having covered them but just do not know that they were written or co-written by Kris. One of 'his' biggest hits here in the UK was One Day At A Time by Scottish singer Lena Martell in 1979. I expect too in some parts of the world where country music is not that popular that some people only know him as an actor and not even as a singer, let alone a songwriter.

I met Johnny Cash backstage after a concert in Calgary, Alberta, Canada 1990. I have a picture standing next to Johnny. When I shook his immense hand, I knew I was in the presence of a music legend. I had a company that distributed vinyl, cassette tapes, and CDs. I was the guy who sold mostly cassette tapes you would see in truck stops, small town drug stores, etc. When CDs hit the market, displaying them correctly was difficult. I got out of the record business at the right time.
