As a Ghanaian, I think the trick to avoiding injury in fufu pounding is in the rhythm. It always goes that way.

That the trick and exactly the point. Like the ticking of a clock. It goes Kum, cha Kum, cha Kum, Cha Kum, Cha. The pounder is the Kum and the driver which is you are the cha. As simple as ABC. I started pounding at the age of 7 yrs and could pound with just one hand through out till we start another set when I grew up. To me that was my gym and exercise.didn’t just waste my strength away but had fufu at the end.😂😂😂

The trick for the one pounding is to aim for the middle of the mortar with each stroke. The one mixing also knows this so knows where the mortar would hit and where it would not be hitting. Keeping the stroke of the pestle in the middle of the mortar keeps both of them safe.

In neighbouring Liberia they have similar fufu which pounded without the hands and .plantains only cassava. My mother has a washing machine but she still washes clothes by hand. She says she doesn’t just rely on the washing machine but likes to wash clothes by hand because the clothes comes out better. Things we take for granted in the West, Africans make the best of what they have and are no worse off for not having things like washing machines. As for washing each other’s dirty underwear - I’ll best leave that controversy to another day!

Hi guys, how are you all, I just want to respond to the topic of a man washing a women’s underwear, I am from a little insignificant Island in the Caribbean Sea name Jamaica, and exactly how your aunty explained the reason men do not wash women’s underwear the same reason we don’t, I had goosebumps when I heard her explaining why, we are descendants of African separated by hundred of miles and 400 years have passed by and something remain,

Hi Lloyd S, why do you think Jamaica's an "insignificant" Island in the Caribbean? Jamaicans have been making tracks every where in the world. (I'm also Jamaican)

As a fellow Jamaican our island is very significant. You can hardly find any place on the planet not influenced by our music or have heard about us. I know you me at no harm but our words carry weight that.

I enjoyed learning about how Fufu is made. Dominicans eat Mangu (mashed plantains). It's cool to see that you add cassava (our second most common food next to plantains) to it.
