There is no "Dernaissance". She has been consistently excellent and relevant for many years. Even Enlightened was relatively not too long before Big Little Lies. Then you have stuff like Inland Empire and Recount, she's been always been a Hollywood mainstay apart from that blip after Ellen.

For youngsters not in the know, Laura Dern is the daughter of acting great Bruce Dern. Both great talents, loved her in MASK, with another underrated actor, Eric Stoltz. If you get a chance, look up Bruce Dern's appearance on THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JOHNNY CARSON. He did a funny sketch with Johnny parodying FRANKENSTEIN. When they unveiled the monster, who was under the sheet? Ed Sullivan! Talk about 3 generations of entertainment greats! 🇵🇷🇺🇸😊

@@parsnipmcgee329 Quite right! Same thing with Gwenyth Paltrow and her mom, Blythe Danner. Even Lewis Arquette played a sherriff alongside his son David in SCREAM 2. Lots of famous acting families made appearances in the same films.🇵🇷🇺🇸😊

I have been a fan of her father Bruce Dern since he starred in the movie Silent Running. That title sounds like it's a submarine movie. However, it is in outer space. To me, it was an unfortunate title. I was nineteen years old and already a Sci-fi buff before I saw that movie. I've been his loyal fan of his ever since. The first blip of Laura Dearn came across my radar and I honed in on her immediately. Her work hasn't been disappointing ever since. In many ways, her father must be very proud.

If The Academy wants to be taken seriously by me in the future, two things need to happen on Oscar Night: 1) Joker DOES NOT win Best Picture and goes to either The Irishman, Marriage Story or Parasite and 2) Laura Dern wins Best Supporting Actress. She owned every scene she's in. The first meeting with Scarlett's character, the courtroom sniping with Ray Liotta, that one meeting in the law office and of course THE JESUS MONOLOGUE (I guess you could call it that). She may be Hollywood royalty but Laura has etched her own path in the business and has done it consistently for decades. An Oscar for Marriage Story would be the ultimate compliment to an exceptional acting resume.
