You can look up interviews where she says she wrote this after going through a bad break up and writing drivers license was a way of processing all of her multifaceted emotions. She also shares in multiple interviews and also on one of her tik toks that she had just recently gotten her license at 17 and wrote this in her living one day after taking a drive around her neighborhood listening to sad songs and crying in the car. She said she just got home from her drive and thought writing about “Crying in the car” would make for a good song so she did. You can definitely tell that the emotion she sings from is real.

She has only been through one breakup but has written multiple songs about that experience, they are not about different guys. Her entire album goes through the different emotions she felt e.g. sadness, jealous and anger which can be seen in all of her singles. It’s like the stages of a breakup

Everyone seems to view her album as a breakup album, but you can definitely interpret the lyrics multiple ways. 1 step forward, 3 steps back reminds me of my relationship with my mother who is emotionally abusive. Of course her songs are definitely about breakups and some other relationships, but I think people can relate to it in many other ways as well

The songs are rumored to be about her 20-year-old costar and the older blonde is a 21-year-old actress he was seen with after her. she dated her co-star from disney, he's 3 years older than olivia and broke up with her to start to date his blonde friend who is 4 years older than olivia, she always felt insecure about the blonde girl, because the boy was really close with her and olivia is half filipino, she always sang about white blonde prom queens being the beauty goal making her feel insecure about herself for being asian. Anyway, olivia wrote all her songs, her album is called sour because it's about this sour moment of her life last year after the break up, she was 17 and really hurt by her first love

the boy that all of these songs were written about is named joshua bassett. he plays olivia’s boyfriend on a tv show called “high school musical the series.” to get an idea of their relationship, you can watch them sing the song they wrote together live, “just for a moment.” additionally, he’s actually released a few songs that are speculated to be a response to driver’s license. you should react to “only a matter of time,” “heaven is you,” and “lie lie lie.” love the videos. please keep it up.
