i love it when the older guys get out and fly together. hopefully when I'm that age, I will still be flying. I heard that as you get older, you start to retire the hobby and move on to other things. someone who might be into planes, might switch over to trains. or visa versa. but it's so good that these old-timers have the gumption to get out and still do what they love. I could only hope that my Dad, when he's older, will do that same thing and offer to take me along. thanks for sharing the video, it was awesome!

You are really making the most of your new flying site exploring the capabilities of these wonderful STOL machines,Trent Palmer will be proud of you. Some of the best model aerial photography that I have seen,those low angle shots amongst the greenery look really the part and getting four models of similar type together really worked too,I really enjoy your channel this is grass roots flying fun at its very best,a great bunch of lads enjoying every minute of their flying. Great opening chase sequence as always! Sweet STOL Sunday planes and flights however, the best "stall" was Mark and the donuts excuse! Saw Ken's shirt and I work a Swedish owned steel mill SSAB (Swedish Steel Inc.) Montpelier Iowa Works! I'm the scrap management foreman for a contractor Harsco Metals and Steve's planes looks like scrap after another hard landing lol! Excellent flights, landing (except for Private Donuts last one) gentleman! Thumbs up yak! Best regards to all!

Rob seems to get better every week :) Well even if we mowed it the ground under there is really lumpy and full of holes - for the belly landers the grass at least gives some cushion and smooths it out. At some point when the rain stops they'll grade the path and it will be better for everything other than jets. :)

Yay STOL day! I love my Maule. I smacked a powerline on my maiden and crashed mine but after a quick repair, It was back up and flying in no time. I ordered a new wing but honestly, the repair came out so well, I may not even replace it. Besides the slight damage to the moulded in wind generators or whatever those are, I havent noticed any Issues. I did lose a servo but I bought a whole bunch of those on E- Bay that are an exact replacement. I am thinking of builting a flite Test foamy just for the heck of it. I do like your " New" Field. Its too bad some people have to complain about everything. They love using the word " Liability" for everything even though we all have our AMA insurance. They do not care. Great flying day. We just got more snow Sunday. Its going to be another late spring.

Deciding between Maule and Timber X. More interested in scale/sport flying than STOL capabilities, but large wheels on both would do well on my 1 1/2" grass field. Can you compare/ contrast the 2 and recommend 1 over the other for my purposes/
@DiscoverRC
@DiscoverRC 5 жыл бұрын
If you want the better scale/sport flying probably the Maule. Both should handle the grass ok. The X really is more an overpowered nonscale 3d/sport plane - it just happens to do decent stol as well. But for scale, it's the Maule M7.

The landing gear is the weakest link on any E-flite Timber! That has been the most frustrating part for me. If you come in at an odd angle your landing gear is trashed! When I get my next Timber I'm going to have the plastic parts machined out of Billet aluminum and see what I can do then to keep from trashing it on a bad landing lol

@kenleung1124
@kenleung1124 5 жыл бұрын
I think the Turbo Timber "floats" better by watching how it flies. The Maule flies more like a sport scale plane with STOL capability. The clear windows and top battery hatch makes it a winner for me. The Maule does fly a little faster which makes sense since its heavier and slightly larger. It does have a larger motor and with 4s it goes vertical no problem. I guess it depends if you prefer form or function. The Timber functions better as a purpose built STOL plane while the Maule has better form.

What about the turbo timber vs the timber X? Can the timber x be dialed down and easily be flown nice and slow for me to help train a kid how to fly? But then still have the capability of me flying 3D?

I flew the x with 4s 2700s and they just barely fit. That will be the main issue and you might be getting a bit nose heavy, otherwise they will be fine and you'll get long flight times. The 4s 2200s are right on the money and good for 8-10 minutes of mixed flying.

@garrick738
@garrick738 4 жыл бұрын
@@carrboro_chapelhillfpv2442 Is that true? What exactly happens in a tail-heavy condition that leads to this expression? I don't know why, but my Timber 1.5m seems slightly tail-heavy (I need to apply significant forwards/down elevator trim). At 1/2 to 3/4 throttle it goes noes-up, stalls, dips then up again; but doesn't fly level easily. I'm using 3S 2200mAh 25C and 35C batteries and adding a Venom voltage detector/alarm in the battery compartment. Anyone have suggestions on what to do?
@carrboro_chapelhillfpv2442
@carrboro_chapelhillfpv2442 4 жыл бұрын
garrick738 it is true more so on flying wings as there is no tail to counter the effects. There will be documentation on the “G” spot of the baby Timber on horizon Hobbies website under where you would buy it. You may also find it if you search KZbin for it as well. If it wants to pitch up, what we call porpose’ing, (looks like a dolphin breaking), then you first need to make sure all controls surfaces are neutral if they are you are more than likely tail heavy.

Maule vs Turbo Timber, on the fence between the two
@DiscoverRC
@DiscoverRC 5 жыл бұрын
it's a hard choice - I know Ken loves the Maule. You will want to protect the paint or it will chip and flake. I think the timber is a such a solid flying plane but the Maule looks better.

@DiscoverRC
@DiscoverRC 5 жыл бұрын
it's a hard choice - do you like slower stol flying (turbo), a more scale look and still decent stol (maule) or do you want a more aerobatic 3d type plane (x) that sacrifices a little stability and slow flight capability? Or get Carbon Z Cub ss - that one is awesome :)
@tysonhorn510
@tysonhorn510 5 жыл бұрын
@@DiscoverRC well thats the problem. Haha. I like all of those types of flying. Absolutely love slow and low scale flying but a little 3D is super fun as well. I am also hoping to train a kid how to fly soon

Thats generally the first thing I do is minwax my planes. You can get a dull coat, semi shine or full shine. I hit a powerline with my Maul on its maiden. I had to replace one servo and a wing strut. I was able to get it fixed ok after using the hot water method on the 2 inch indentation where I used the powerline as a speed brake.lol. They are TOUGH.

the paint is really low tack and flakey - if you don't coat it the plane will get the worn look pretty fast.
