i love it when the older guys get out and fly together. hopefully when I'm that age, I will still be flying. I heard that as you get older, you start to retire the hobby and move on to other things. someone who might be into planes, might switch over to trains. or visa versa. but it's so good that these old-timers have the gumption to get out and still do what they love. I could only hope that my Dad, when he's older, will do that same thing and offer to take me along. thanks for sharing the video, it was awesome!

Rob seems to get better every week :) Well even if we mowed it the ground under there is really lumpy and full of holes - for the belly landers the grass at least gives some cushion and smooths it out. Yay STOL day! I love my Maule. I smacked a powerline on my maiden and crashed mine but after a quick repair, It was back up and flying in no time. I ordered a new wing but honestly, the repair came out so well, I may not even replace it. Besides the slight damage to the moulded in wind generators or whatever those are, I havent noticed any Issues. I did lose a servo but I bought a whole bunch of those on E- Bay that are an exact replacement. I am thinking of builting a flite Test foamy just for the heck of it. I do like your " New" Field. Its too bad some people have to complain about everything. They love using the word " Liability" for everything even though we all have our AMA insurance. They do not care. Great flying day. Deciding between Maule and Timber X. More interested in scale/sport flying than STOL capabilities, but large wheels on both would do well on my 1 1/2" grass field. Can you compare/ contrast the 2 and recommend 1 over the other for my purposes/
@DiscoverRC5 жыл бұрын
If you want the better scale/sport flying probably the Maule. Both should handle the grass ok. The X really is more an overpowered nonscale 3d/sport plane - it just happens to do decent stol as well. But for scale, it's the Maule M7.

@DiscoverRC5 жыл бұрын
Well having had both I am more partial to the Turbo Timber for all around flying fun. The Maule is also great and more scale looking.
@kenleung11245 жыл бұрын
I think the Turbo Timber "floats" better by watching how it flies. The Maule flies more like a sport scale plane with STOL capability. The clear windows and top battery hatch makes it a winner for me. The Maule does fly a little faster which makes sense since its heavier and slightly larger. It does have a larger motor and with 4s it goes vertical no problem. I guess it depends if you prefer form or function. The Timber functions better as a purpose built STOL plane while the Maule has better form.
@tysonhorn5105 жыл бұрын
What about the turbo timber vs the timber X? Can the timber x be dialed down and easily be flown nice and slow for me to help train a kid how to fly? But then still have the capability of me flying 3D?

I flew the x with 4s 2700s and they just barely fit. That will be the main issue and you might be getting a bit nose heavy, otherwise they will be fine and you'll get long flight times. The 4s 2200s are right on the money and good for 8-10 minutes of mixed flying.

my standard timber can fit a 3000mah 4S, the fuselage between all timbers are the same so yes you should be able to fit this in the turbo timber

Nose heavy flys twitchy, tail heavy flys once
@garrick7384 жыл бұрын
@@carrboro_chapelhillfpv2442 Is that true? What exactly happens in a tail-heavy condition that leads to this expression? I don't know why, but my Timber 1.5m seems slightly tail-heavy (I need to apply significant forwards/down elevator trim). At 1/2 to 3/4 throttle it goes noes-up, stalls, dips then up again; but doesn't fly level easily. I'm using 3S 2200mAh 25C and 35C batteries and adding a Venom voltage detector/alarm in the battery compartment. Anyone have suggestions on what to do?
@carrboro_chapelhillfpv24424 жыл бұрын
garrick738 it is true more so on flying wings as there is no tail to counter the effects. There will be documentation on the “G” spot of the baby Timber on horizon Hobbies website under where you would buy it. You may also find it if you search KZbin for it as well. If it wants to pitch up, what we call porpose’ing, (looks like a dolphin breaking), then you first need to make sure all controls surfaces are neutral if they are you are more than likely tail heavy.
