COLLAGE is putting out a video. My part is mostly finished. But, while everyone else grabs a trick or two, I'm trying to put the icing on this cake. This session was promising. But, they don't all co our way.

My first thought when I see those ledges is Anthony Van Engelen's "Wheels of Fortune" in 411 (and the subsequent "Best of" part). I never fully understood how tall they are when I was little. My recent failure was a dead camera battery as I was about to get a trick, and my spare had defectively expanded and broken the day before. Basically just bad luck. 🤷‍♂ Gotta go back for the trick, but it's a 45 minute drive...

That 411 part was sick! I miss them. Dead batteries are a drag. Been a victim of those many times as well. Never a defect though. That one must have stung.

I remember seeing you around some LA parks when I used to live there yrs back. Your were always cool and had a rocker style like leather jackets and stuff which was rad. Watching you in this video was sick. You have mad pop/flick and style.

Yesterday I missed a 180 down a ledge I wanted before going home. I felt sad also. But I had come to ollie it, and that was very mobbed lol. That front nose 270 out would have looked great. Or I guess it’s still on and we’ll see it eventually. Anyway I skate hard bushings too as I’m currently not as thin as I could be (but Im doing great tbh) I’m running thunders though on pretty generic trucks. The top washer that comes with that bushing set hugs the top and sides of the bushing and it does not flex. While the one stock on my trucks did. And when I received it I tried to use the original ones to test how badly they would warp. I like to tighten them down until they crush a bit and start to get softer since I’m using the 95a, not medium. (First thing I would look at when analyzing the component failure is the washer, and if the bushings can start to slip out past the washers, warp or rotate easily) That lower cone bushing where the stock cylinder one should be, comes out small for the washer, that incompatibilty could be throwing something off. With hard bushing, you can tighten them up and still turn great. Medium (or stock) bushings imo do a lot of crazy stuff because they're meant for sub-150lb riders. They want to like eject lol

I feel you! I’m 205 right now. I don’t think any skate gear is made for someone my size. At least I’m not going through as much product as I did when I skated stairs constantly. The real trick was 270 heel out. Landed on a perfect one, when the bushing broke. I’ll be back for it!

Dude I'm gonna have to see it when it comes out. Does collage have a youtube channel? I have to suggest 95a and 100a durometer bushings, because they do make products for bigger or taller riders. It's just not advertised that way. Besides wheelbase, height of trucks, wider setup, bushings do go the longest way towards changing your setup completely. You can generally use indy or thunder bushings depending on truck style. I would recommend some experimentation, it could help improve your skating. Skating the wrong size anything should not be holding anyone back imo. I missed that the core blew out of the bushing but another commenter pointed it out. I was wondering what that was still on the kingpin. If bones bushings work for you maybe you could try the harder ones. But the lower one doesn't seem to be providing any support and so the top one blew out. I wouldn't put bushing swith a core in my board, I could tell that's a point of failure just by looking at it. If any little thing goes wrong, that point will take up the slack and probably fail. (Like they say, K.I.S.S.; keep it stupid simple.) Skateboards are much easier than car suspension. I feel like I understand it pretty well on a basic level. Race cars cars have stiffer suspension while cars that can take a hop have longer travel shocks and springs. I tighten the hell out of my bushings so they will always be able to expand when landing. It's the most I could do. Bushings are basically more like bump stops on a car but we have to make the most of them. If you've ever seen racing coilovers some of them you can preload the spring like the original ones that come on the car which are softer and some of them tell you not to do that. If you preload that bushing it starts to lose its rebounding force like a shock and it will work only like a spring going that way, so you can really dial it in. And get pretty decent turns while losing some pinch potentially. 95a is considered even for me quite a strong bushing, but for you it might even be a happy medium. (In my case I'm more likely to be stopped by heelbite than wheelbite.) But also if the bushing is too soft it can get stiffer the more you tighten it but at that point it's already at full yield. (The other day john hill was saying maybe my new bushings will get tighter with breaking them in, I can't believe people mean that unless they are tightening them more and more) So it will feel like that rock solid shock and soft springs, or maybe like hard springs with a busted shock. If you tighten a bolt you can get it quite tight and at one point it is so tight that it wants to stretch if oyu tighten it anymore. This is the perfect spot for somehting you want to clamp down like lets say a bridge, or a head gasket lol. But what happens if you secure something with the bolt at yield and then put more weight on it than it can stand. The bolt will probably give out (shear stress equation). At that point the bushing will keep stretching forever to the sides as you skate and then tighten it down again. (At that point I also consider it to be stressing the kingpin and the baseplate. I'll take a forged kingpin and baseplate all day but you don't need it lol.) I would maybe skate medium bushings if I liked skating my trucks very loose, no threads showing. I know not everybody wants to switch to hard bushings lol. Maybe you skate a lot of pools or somehting, I don't know. But I'm 169lbs and I have no trouble dialing in my setup with my current bushings, and the washer that came on my trucks was terrible!@@NormanWoods

I'm surprised that you don't keep a bag with spare parts: nuts, bolts, bearings, bushings, etc.

Two setups normally. But, once the session has a long pause, it’s over. Having to jump that high for a long time is different.
