Such seamless transitions in each medley! I don’t know how Doyle does it. I really loved when Go Tell It on the Mountain went from C to A. Beautiful. I could listen to Doyle pick all day. And as always, a beautiful message that inspires me. Such a blessing to start each Sunday with Doyle’s String Alongs! Thank you, Lord, for the immense gift to us all of Doyle Dykes, his music, and his example. :-)

I tried banjo years ago. My wife asked me if there was a tune in there somewhere and I told there would be when played faster. She asked, how long til that happened. I gave up the banjo. Thanks for the carols! Churches don't seem to put them forward as much now as they did when I was young. We can't lose that rich heritage linking us with the past saints.

No, I really mean it this time. This is my favorite Christmas season Sunday String-along. For umpteen reasons, but don't miss Doyle playing a semi-solid body Chet Atkins signature model instrument that "Mr. Guitar" gifted to Doyle -- someone he declared he would 'pay to see' -- when asked the question. "Oh ... someone like Doyle Dykes" -- Chet Atkins.

Pick it up at the 4:20 mark as Doyle Dykes "sets the levels" for AWAY IN A MANGER played on a guitar that master luthier James Olson of Minnesota gave to Mr. Dykes as a gift. I'd just been thinking that James Taylor treasures a similar instrument made for him by Mr. Olson; knowing that to obtain one, I'd have to "get in line" -- wait at least a year -- and pay upwards of 25K American, about 40K Canadian dollars! But could I ever make it sound as sweet as this? Doyle's sparkling Christmas Medley. Thanks for sharing!

At the 2:23 mark he stares at the camera, as if amazed that, without any warm-up he was able to play the banjo ("I haven't [ever] played it much,") knowing he's just delivered something that would delight, both the grandmaster of banjo Earl Scruggs, and amaze his life-long hero (mine too!) Chet Atkins. Yes, watch this latest SUNDAY String-Along from the beginning as Doyle Dykes warms to an instrument he emulates so often, with 'bent' notes only he creates on the headstock of his guitars. The other thing is -- not a trace of condescension toward the "lesser instrument," disdained by jazz guitarists, except for the great Chuck Wayne. I must google for " Chuck Wayne Green Dolphin Street " In my mind's ear I can re-live every single note of his jazz soloings. It takes a master, like Doyle Dykes, to have such a lasting effect on our musical psyche, no? P.S. Good Lord, (spoken with reverence) is there anything we can't find now in a second or two: from his TAPESTRY album circa 1965. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWmohZSVfrudaM0

Stay tuned or pick it up at the 4:44 mark. I didn't realize that this precious instrument, perhaps Doyle's favorite steel-string, acoustic-electric guitar was a "gift from James Olson" who used "all of his skills to make it. " Like the instruments made by Mr. Olson for James Taylor, this one "owned by Doyle Dykes" is already in the category of "priceless."

What's the best pickup to put on a banjo? (Answer).... Ford F150 !! What's worse than a banjo? (Answer)... Two banjos!! ( just made that one up, as you can tell.) All the best to your family and self, and thanks gor including O Little Town of Bethlehem in your medley, one of the few carols I know a good arrangement for. ( Ron Echete) I can sort of stumble through a rough version of one and a half of his two arrangements. By the time you're 80, I'll robably have it down!

15:08 Hi Doyle! What is this song? I would love to learn it and sing it myself… Regardless of the level of musicianship and technical expertise, the “normal” banjo (not a baritone) and the high harmonica (not the low-tuned ones) are two instruments I just can’t listen to. Maybe my big rabbit ears are too sensitive to the sound, but it’s always been that way. 😂 I enjoyed the show! Merry Christmas! 🐰🎁🎄🎸🎶✌️
