38D “Delivery that can’t be returned” confounded me even after I saw the answer was ACE. And I like tennis! I was stuck on cards and trying to think of a game where you might not be able to return an ace to the dealer or something. I think the problem is conceptually I would never think of an ace shot as one that “can’t” be returned. Any in-bounds serve has the potential to be an ace, and also the potential to be returned by a skilled player. It only becomes an ace when it “hasn’t” been returned. “Can’t” is never part of it! Anyway just had to vent today’s little pedantic confusion somewhere.

My first entry was actually ICE. Which you can't return because it would have melted, obviously. I should have realized I was solving a crossword and not a riddle though hah.
