My old friend played this song nearly everyday. Now that we don't talk, it helps and brings a lot of nostalgia to sit here and listen to this. I could cry but It wouldn't do much. As the days pass I feel less and less meaning without my dear friend. I miss him and John Fahey lives through him. I hope one day our paths cross and our friendship will bloom again but until then i'll still think of him everyday and when I hear John play.

Update: on the 19th my friend killed himself. I am besides myself. After I wrote this comment we had reconnected and spent the last few years of his life together minus the last one and a half where he struggled with mental illness and drugs. I will never be the same. I hope this video stays up because it helps me remember the good times. Rest In Peace Harrison.

@drtymrty Agreed. This is dangerous in untuned hands. I learned this and played it for 24 hours straight once and I actually found myself on the Sunflower River. Nearly drowned, lucky my guitar floats. Soggy Greyhound back up north.

One of Fahey's greatest songs. And the tape glitch is nice-the VHS equivalent of a scratchy 78.

I saw John Fahey when he played at a local folk club in Montreal, Canada. In between sets, we talked, and we both had an interest in India and gurus. If I remember correctly, he was following Anandamayi Ma. After the club closed, I drove him back to his hotel. He was flying out the next morning. I always loved his music and how he "invented" that guitar style.

Thanks! It's flabergasting that anyone would listen to this man play and then "hit dislike"...he's the mad genius. He kinda IS the guitar.

I heard this song by watching Master of None where there is a scene where this song comes in. I was immidiately in love with this song and when I discovered John Fahey. This song is now my all time favourite to also play. and John Fahey is my all time favourite guitarist. It's amazing I think how you can also do your own interpetations on his songs. I wish I could've at least see him once live...

Two versions of the song. The 1963 version (which is this version) is played in open C. However the 1967 version (I think it was 1967) is in open D. But the two versions are very different.
