Is open C tuning another name for C unison tuning?

lolz, so I actually already have every black mt pick that he offers in the extra tight fit. Found him as I find any, on the eternal search for The Goldilocks Thumbpick. And heads-up to anyone wishing for smaller sizes, Black Mt does offer a smaller fit. I'm still on my quest but these are great picks, super well built. I still have to tape everything on but thats an old habit and personal style/preference/needs thing. I highly reccomend trying these as I can see how these could be that holy grail pick that ends the quest.

I've been a John Fahey fan since the 60s. I actually met John, he had come to Montreal to play at a local folk music club. Apparently he had a girlfriend in Montreal. In between sets I would talk to him in the green room. He had been to India and also I had been to India. Apparently he was or had been a follower of a woman saint, Anandamayi Ma. After the gig, I drove him back to his hotel. The next morning he was flying back to the states. I still love his music, an originator of the guitar style called "Americian Primitive Guitar".

For years I have only ever picked with my thumb and index finger (I'm a left handed player who plays right handed so always felt quite 'handicapped' in that sense) and thought I'd never get any better. This tutorial got me picking with my thumb, index and middle finger for the first time ever! Thanks for this amazing tutorial which helped me finally push through and challenge myself to be a better player!

Another great lesson. You’re one of the few online teachers I can sit with for the weeks or months it takes me to learn a tune. I’d love you to add ‘The last Steam Train Engine’ in the near future.🤘🏻

Did somebody say John Fahey?? Think its probably safe to say that most people here love music, love a lot of artists, and love a lot of songs. But there's a small handful of artists who's music ...i dunno...haunts my sould at night-kinda-thing? Fahey is one of those artists. Chris Whitely, Jeff Buckley......If anythings gonna keep anyone up at night, it may as well be a chord pregression or a riff or a lick that is so simple yet so next level amazing.....thanks for this, it was nice to find in my email today. cheers adding...that Larrivee sounds amazing/beautiful.

Have to say, after trying to learn thumbpicking techniques with the standard molded thumbpicks which hurt my thumbs, the Black Mountain picks are outstanding. Spring loaded with just the right amount of closure to hold them without the hurt, and shaped like a regular pick so they feel more natural in playing. They already feel more natural to use and my practice times are more productive and enjoyable.

Thanks a lot for this lesson and the videos. If you could slow down a tiny weeny notch when dicoomposing the picking patterns that would be of great help, I have to go over and over again to figure some parts out 😅

One of my favorites to play. Open C tuning is such a rich tuning (some say John invented it). Many of his pieces are in Open C. Jack Rose did a recording tuned down an entire step. Sounds amazing. Always play with my Black Mountain thumb picks (and National Brass finger picks). I tried the National thumb pick but prefer my Black Mountain! Thanks for the lesson. 😀
