If Splatoon was made for 16+, I think Salmon Run would have looked as dark as this. Imagine in Overtime it's not normal Salmonids who are coming after you, no.. it's the mutated bodies of Octolings and Inklings who ended up lost at sea who follow you around trying to get help or to drag you into the sea as well to become one of them, the mutated salmonid Octoling/Inkling zombies

If you look at the horrorboros you can see that they have two yellow antenna like things on their head, and if you look at Kaia you I’ll see she has two yellow hair things. I think Kaia was mutated into the horrorboros and you can still see where her hair used to be.

It’s interesting that she could have been turned into a Horrorboros, because the Horrorboros sounds very different from the other two Big Run bosses. The Cohozuna sounds like your typical roar, and Joe sounds like a rock and roll yell, but still kind of a roar. The Horrorboros though… it sounds like agonized screaming, or something (or someone) in pain. If Kaia truly has been mutated into a Horrorboros, then maybe those screams are her writhing in agony, even after her presumably dying due to the experimentation… a chilling thought.

I remember seeing a few theories around while reading dumb youtube comment sections about King Salmonid's being formerly other creatures, like Inkfish. When you mentioned it in this video, I just had to stop and remember that. When thinking about it, something like this always seems to scare me most. Loss of humanity is one of my favorite topics to explore in fiction and horror specifically, as it just tickles a little part of my brain that gives me all these wacky and weird ideas to ponder on. Something like this would be an interesting route to take for this series, and I'm looking forward to see if Jerm does take this pathway. Anyways, amazing analysis! Im not sure if this is related, but I’ve always theorized that the King Salmonid’s are mutated and modified versions of some Boss Salmonid’s, perhaps some of the Salmonid’s have noticed the inklings and octolings ability to (sometimes) work together to deal massive damage to enemies, so maybe they tried replicating that same destructive ability, then decided to harvest some of the inklings and octolings organs (if they have any), and somehow observe their memories, surgically implant the brains of the inklings or octolings into the Boss Salmonid’s before they become King Salmonid’s, but all they end up with are Salmonid’s that, while do produce the results they wanted, are in constant pain, which may explain the reason why they have horrifying screams

As for Barge, I personally think that's just the name given to the unit on the return ship, since the Chinook unit would likely be communicating with them about Kaia's disappearance, that's how I see it tho

I had a thought. The co-worker that was threatened had been told to have been missing TEAMMATES. The plural, not the singular. So Kaia wasn't the only one who went missing. Like you had said in the video, her story covered up the baller story, and my original thought was that the teammate in the baller had been rescued. But when I looked at a certain image (21:01), you can see a silhouette of the worker's hat. There was no inkling. It's likely that the worker in the baller had died.

Okay I don’t know if I’m just making useless observation here or this actually means something but in the “LONG LIVE KAIA SHIRUI” tape, it clearly displays images of her in domestic environments (The grocery store, plaza, shopping, etc.) and if we circle back to the beginning of the tapes it is stated that her native ink color is ORANGE yet in the memorial video it’s YELLOW. It would make sense that when she is not in combat she would have her native ink color. Anyway, I might just be totally wrong and the ink color detail doesn’t mean anything.

To give my own theory on what's happening here, I think the big experiment Grizzco is perpetrating is a mutation given to the Salmonids in order for them to produce more Golden Eggs, but it had an unforseen effect, with the mutated Salmonids being able to infect other living beings with that mutation, with Kaia being a victim of that process, turning her into some twisted amalgamation, potentially with the goal of spawning more Salmonids to further advance to the mainland. As for Ren, 2, & Barge, I think Ren, 2, and the Inkling interrogated by Grizzco in Volume 2 are the same person, given the consistent nervousness and shock because of what he saw and the strict secrecy Grizzco has put on him as per company rules, meanwhile I believe Barge is just the other unit on the return ship, meaning we still have two of the four Chinook Unit members unnamed, the other survivor besides Ren, and the Inkling that was lost in the storm surge and left adrift in a Baller

I feel like you came to the wrong conclusion regarding the police interview. With Warabi's near-slip-up, almost saying the name Ren, it seems obvious that they were forgetting to use 2's codename, and that Ren is 2. Since 2 says they were fired from Grizzco, and wanted to speak through a middleman to avoid persecution, it feels like a strange decision to have that middleman be a fellow coworker who was also there during the incident. sorry if i worded this poorly btw, i'm bad at constructing my thoughts into arguments

The fact the grizzco tapes are based on players falling into the water after a shift end, being "left behind", gives me a theory on what the idea of the mutation comes from In splatoon 3, several pools are made to farm scales such as OctoleetFarmingYT. To farm scales, one has to be on a full team and throw 5 games to fill up the salmometer to encounter king salmonids more easily, this is called "king throwing", so what if this volume is based on king throwing where grizzco employees are being sacrificed into the water to create king salmonids to get more scales? To be fair it's also explained in game that scales are very precious ressources, maybe more precious than golden eggs? And don't forget that all salmonids we see in game are fishes, yet they produce ink..

I wouldn't put it past Grizzco in this series to take a lookalike, kill her, and use her as false evidence. For the different pronouns: Maybe Kaia is gender nonconforming. And finally: Perhaps the reason Kaia's case is the one with the most publicity is either because: -Grizzco has been finding teenagers with no families to use this on and miscalculated about Kaia -Perhaps Kaia is just the most convenient rallying-point, the most interesting missing person, the one everyone agrees did nothing to deserve this. The media is focusing on her and kind of skimming over the other victims because she's likeable/a bit of a symbol for all of them/interesting.
