An interesting note is that in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, that cutscene of Knuckles leaving that secret area is how Sonic gets to Hidden Palace to turn the Chaos Emeralds into the Super Emeralds Adam seems to be giving Cory (and possibly Kyle, assuming the demon isn't Tails) an actual hiding spot Where as the special stage in the first video is likely accessed from Angel Island Zone where everything sets on fire

Sonic CDN really gives off a huge mix of a bunch of typical analouge horror tropes, but it has two unique parts of it that ultimately feel like they borrow from two different places The overt gruesome nature of the opening and the basic "tapes" really remind me of The Painter/Urbanspook and the shock value that series relied to heavily on It really just had nothing interesting beyond the gruesome nature of it, the description and eventual image of Adam were also just incredibly and obviously unintentionally silly The more action and artistic elements definitely feel like they're heavily riffing on the later episodes of Needlemouse, except with little of the build up that series had I'm actually rather surprised you didn't cover it

tbh i think the issue with sonic cdn (as far as the gore and shock-value-esque-ness goes) is just pacing? It speaks to the creator's lack of experience that the first episode is the most blatant gratuitous, and how that got toned back after, and I feel like it would have been more impactful for corey, adam, and kyle to have been introduced before their deaths are described, maybe some details as to why they specifically became victims of the demon? Knowing more about who they were before they died is really the missing piece to me, because (judging by the rest of the series) we ARE meant to sympathize with them. I don't feel knowledgeable enough to comment on the needlemouse part, but if I had to take a stab in the dark, I'd chalk a lot of the issues up to sonic.cdn's creator having seen needlemouse and been inspired to create their own sonic horror project, but due to a lack of experience in the genre, they didn't quite understand what made needlemouse work, or didn't realize how important buildup is to horror in general. It sort of reads like something I would have come up with when I was just starting out writing, because most beginners have trouble distinguishing inspiration from imitation.
