... I'm sorry I can't see the comparison between ATLA and Fooly Cooly. Any examples where?
@_inSight__2 жыл бұрын
@@tr4sh37 it's not when the animation is static or standard bending scenes. It's more in the moments with silly humor or specific moments with artistic touches of unneeded unique animation. There are plenty of small moments, and it isn't as on the nose as FLCL because ALTA is a bit more grounded as far as story telling and world building, but the easiest example I can think of is in the desert when Sokka and Momo drink cactus juice. Just small jokes or moments that allow for more of a liberal touch for things that aren't as important, but that's not entirely true either because plenty of action scenes have unique camera movements that build off the ideas of FLCL, moments of fast back and forth and impressive acrobatics from certain characters.

the whole point is that everything is confusing when we're "that age" the fruitless effort of trying to digest what was happening in this show and in our own lives coupled with the deep vibes of iconic scenes and epic perspective changes the fact that it's all over so quickly (6eps) just as our time to experience that transition in our lives it's a really special thing i know a lot of people like to analyze and try to make sense of things but this show... i got so much value out of it by watching and not understanding and sometimes that's just how life is - - - - - - edit: to all of you who have been responding to this comment, much love. it goes to show that this is how deeply we can really connect with each other through common experience. i encourage you to go out and have these conversations in real life as well - you've got more to talk about with your fellow human beings than you realize. forgo the endless barrage of media and entertainment for a moment to ask deeper and listen more intently you'll find that you don't need video games or distractions any more once you're in conversation

It’s about time FLCL got back in the algorithm, I swear this anime is timeless, it’s short like a sandwich once ya finish it ya want another, good of you to be that exact spirit with a perfect choice for a song for the video, as well making the lyrics try to match up as well with the animation. I might be high and not remember this, but for now fuck this my jam and I hope I find it if I don’t remember lol

I watched FLCL recently because of this amazing video. I had no idea what was happening (as most people propably do) but I didnt even bother to understand it. It just had such amazing character and vibe that was kind of like an encrypted message rolled into a ball of wool that got injected into my brain. By not understanding it but feeling the way I did when I watched it I got more out of it than if it was a normal anime with a "deep meaning". It's just a beautiful way of sending a message without actually writing it

Sounds like you understood it perfectly! A lot of the "plot" was just an excuse to animate fun things

Seen so many FLCL vids lately, lol. I love this artstyle - this bridge between digital and traditional anime that they were really starting to work with. It was a style that was probably mostly inflicted, not chosen, but that's part of what makes it charming.

Waaay back, when this first aired on Adult Swim, I would stay up not caring, just to watch this. I was in highschool at the time that was many years ago. It is still my #1 favorite Anime ever. It arrived at a time right when it was needed. In my opinion, there is not a person that can top Haruko. And no, I already called dibs.

I've been thinking for a while about why modern seasonal anime doesn't click with me. I've never pinned anything down, just a few thoughts about what grates me. It might be the kinds of stories I want to see aren't ones that studios are likely to tell, or adapt. Its always felt like most seasonal style anime doesn't have any ambition to be anything other than just a fun, comfy or cool, fighty story, not to try to illustrate an interesting idea, or challenge established structures, but comfy or fighty stories for their own sake. It might be how much is released, so quickly, it feels like anything worthwhile just doesn't have time to sit, to take hold, to become really, really cherished by the audience because a whole swath of new shows are coming in a week or two. It might be how just lifeless, repetitive, and ubiquitous the common art style for seasonal anime has become, every one or two season anime just looks the same, sterile look. I take weird issue with the "best girl, eye candy" type characters, how creators seem to always make one, not because it makes sense story wise to have an unreasonably hot chick, or fits a specific anime's aesthetic, but because it is expected to just have fanservice as part of every anime's aesthetic. I don't like how these characters take up waaayyy to much oxygen in fandoms just because they are the "required hot chick", and even though the show might have a lot to offer besides the way that girl looks, most of the engagement around most shows is just about the way she looks. I seriously hate how profit incentive drives home all these issues, drives studios who have the resources necessary to make anime on the scale we have it today to just push out so much anime, with the same cheap art, similar simple stories meant to just be fun distractions, at such a fast pace to make as much money as possible. It suppresses real creatives, people who are individually, creatively driven to make something really cool, but lack the necessary resources to compete in a market with large anime corporations. While there isn't anything wrong with wanting and enjoying simple, comfy stories and shows, it also just feels like fandoms don't even realize that's all these anime are. There isn't anything wrong with simple, comfy, or formulaic shows, but the whole culture of fans who are actually invested in season by season anime feels just really mechanical. I guess that's just the direction anime, as a broad fandom (and industry), is going, and that's fine, its just not what I want out of things. I don't watch much anime, I don't watch much tv or movies at all actually. FLCL is a show that I've seen a lot of fan content and amvs of, the soundtrack especially is really good, and it's always felt like it just seeps purpose. It feels like a show that an artist really wanted to make, not the next anime a studio pushes out to turn a profit. It feels like what art should be.

I agree. I wish anime studios would realize this.

yeah, nothing wrong with simple things, but is like nobody knows that other things more complex exist and animes/tv/movies can be so much deep or diferent, hope you re doing good

I am relatively new to anime (only one year since I started watching in general) and I have never seen Fooly Cooly but I like what I am seeing. Great video and choice of music. Plus, the show reminds me of something Studio Shaft would make. Will have to check it out. I enjoy surreal shows like that.
