It was a bit cut-off in the anime in season 1. When Cha Hae-In was in the helicopter, she was covering her nose too and spoke with Choi Jong-In about this in the last episode. Normal hunters emit a kind of strong smell from their powers in her opinion, thats why she is surprised now that Drip Woo does not emit this one.

About the rank evaluation part. S ranks are at a power level that cant be measured, so jinwoo is completely safe in coming out as an S rank because no one can properly gauge his power at that point. on the "mana meters" E - A ranks can be measured and given a number value, but theres a point at which mana cant be measured, giving an ERROR when measuring S ranks
