Not a single time did I launch anything after 1.13, so I have no idea really xd As long as I'm aware both pistons and slime are now opaque, so you will only loose performance by using carts instead of observers (so basically any flying machine in new versions is really laggy). So I can't think of any use in new versions other than the fact that this is a pretty interesting unexplored tech and could be used to compact things here and there

Had a chance to do more testing. The short pulse thing should work till 1.2.3, but retracting a rail keeps it floating without fancy tricks through a much greater version range.
