@akmalsy159 Жыл бұрын

This was actually my very first Cosmere novel. The only works I’ve read of Sanderson so far are the Wheel of Time stuff he finished for Jordan. I was very pleasantly surprised by The Sunlit Man. I was able to read and enjoy the story with no context at all. I noted the references to other stories, even without context, and they just whet my appetite for the larger story world rather than detracting from the book. I very much enjoyed it.

4:06 about this one. From chapter five: “‘Fly!’ Nomad said, nudging her as blasts hit his shield. Another enemy ship had noticed them and pivoted to come at them. Worse, the other ember people were all rising from the field of grass like Awakened corpses.” So sig definitely has run into lifeless becuase he knows what awakened corpses rising looks like. I think he’s referring more to the fact that shades dont go to the Spiritual in the same sense that other humans do, and leave behind a splinter of themselves
@TheCosmerenaut Жыл бұрын
Either that, or he knows what Awakening is and can extrapolate what it would do to a corpse. Fair point, regardless.

I gotta question, in the finale of the book while Sigzil is grappling the Cinder King the Cinder King says, "Ah grappling, the cowards way of fighting" and Sigzil thinks, "I know some people who'd be horribly offended by that". Who is that reffering to? AFAIK the only grapplers in stormlight are the Pursuer (who is dead) and... Dalinar?
@TheCosmerenaut8 ай бұрын
There's always a certain amount of grappling in warfare. Kaladin ends up doing plenty of it while fighting various Fused.

@@TheCosmerenaut I was re-reading Words of Radiance and in the arena duel as "green-plate" gets bested by Adolin locking up on him he says, "Grappling is the way of the coward". Incredibly similar line, and Sigzil was watching the fight too. I think Sigzil would hear that line too since the crowd was notably silent. Could just be a coincidence, but that connection for me is incredibly satisfying.

After WaT this book has a whole other side! 1. Just because for Sigzil it is a century or two further in time, on Roshar it is abou a decade or so! 2. Auxiliary RIP is Szeth's ex-spren! 3. Not only Sigzil carried the dawnshard Exist, but he already has offloaded it somewhere! 4. There is a lot of talk about "the greater good", which most probably is in reference to some kind of touch by Retribution on other worlds!

Canticillian Shardplate? I never thought of that but it kind of makes sense. Windrunner Shardplate doesn't look like Zellion's and I doubt Skybreaker Plate does either, but the color of his Shardplate being influenced by his Connection to Canticle would be really cool. But it could just be some kind of effect from the Dawnshard like with Aux, since his Plate Spren would be Connected to him like Aux and we don't see any Windspren or Skybreaker Platespren flying around, so maybe their Physical Manifestations were consumed just like Aux's? Also the idea that the Canticilites fled Threnody due to infighting is an interesting tidbit, perhaps after Shadows for Silence, the Threnodites started to figure out how to control the Shades with Chorus's and whatever the Night Brigade did and without the Shade's enforcement of the Three Simple Rules it led to the warring against each other. Don't even need an explanation on why they'd start fighting, humans gotta human after all.

As much as I would like to see this happen, it seems unlikely. We know that Hoid is immortal and can never die, so if the torment is what makes him like that then I would be surprised if it could be removed. He has probably had the dawnshard for too long for that to still be possible.
