Here’s my take on the 1966 classic “Sunny” by Bobby Hebb. This has to be one of the most covered songs of all time, and that’s because it’s such a GREAT tune!
Big thanks to my very first virtual student Konrad in Germany for inspiring me to record this one today. Email me at chrishazeltonmusic@gmail.com to inquire about private virtual Hammond Organ lessons.

I was picking this one out on my hammond-clone vst midi thingy the other day for fun. After hearing you rock this quite righteously, I am duct taping my fingers together and never playing a keyboard instrument again, LOL.

I felt the same way when I heard the Jack McDuff recording of it. Or the video of Joey D playing it with Pat Martino. But don’t give up!!

I definitely learned something valuable from this video. Chords played around the second C above middle C with lower drawbar setting 82 8 or 83 8, can’t tell exactly which, sound fantastic, especially with C-3 chorus. I’ll try it soon. Thanks so much!

I found you can play chords in a more normal position (around the C above middle C) using 00-8830-000. It’s the same sound. Mr Hammond must have had a reason but I never understood why the 5-1/3’ drawbar is out of sequence.

Nicely done version...BUT: a good illustration as to why it's so much better to master the pedalboard which essentially gives you an extra hand.

I play all pedal bass when playing gospel and ballads, but it’s too cumbersome for jazz, funk, etc. Those styles need a little more finesse in the feel!

@@ChrisHazeltonB3 I've found that using a heel/toe technique with the left foot you can put down a pretty good bass line. I find playing left-hand bass too confining, particularly when you want to change registrations. This is NOT a criticism of your playing--sounds great!

@@theunknownkeyboardist6154 Joey plays crazy bass figures on that Umbria Jazz festival John Scofield, Pat Martino, Joey D. 2001. When I first heard that I thought "Where is the bass player?" But these bass line can never be played using pedal bass. I'm far from demonizing pedal bass. On contrary. But each means to its own purpose. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJOQd61tr9Smeck)

Nice bass line. But why the hell do you never go half step up? The original Bobby Hebb version breathes from the half step up tension. I start with E- and end up on A- .
