Sunny Ritter (14) is an undergraduate at the Mozarteum University, Salzburg, in the studio of Pietro De Maria. Masterclasses with legendary pianists like Alfred Brendel, as well as mentoring from Dr. Michael and Coral Berkovsky, have also given roots and wings to her playing.
Sunny has performed as a soloist at renowned concert venues such as Montréal’s Place des Arts, Toronto’s Meridian Arts Center, the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the Wiener Konzerthaus and four times at the Golden Hall of Wiener Musikverein.
Her début at the Wiener Konzerthaus as the Junior Division winner of Classicalia was broadcast on PBS television. Abroad, she’s been featured on media outlets such as ORF, 3SAT, ARD, Radio Klassik. After winning the Goldene Note for the most promising young piano-virtuoso in Austria, Sunny starred in an episode of the ORF prime-time TV show, Stars und Talente. Closer to home, she was honoured to be the youngest “hot young Canadian musician” named on the CBC’s esteemed “30 under 30” list.
Since her first gold medal at five years old, Sunny has triumphed at more than thirty live competitions in Canada, Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, Romania, Poland, Spain and the US. Notable first prizes include: the Steinway International Piano Competition in Hamburg, Germany, the Paris International Music Competition 2022, the Orchestre Métropolitain’s Concours OMNI, and the Kiwanis Festival, where she broke the record set by Glenn Gould as the youngest top prizewinner.
Alongside solo recitals for humanitarian organizations, Sunny recently had the honour of playing at Schloss Leopoldskron, in Salzburg, in celebration of Victoria Mars’ $11Million gift towards the “Pathways to Peace” initiative.
