The amount of children I see sitting in carts with phones in their hands while grocery shopping is sickening. My daughter is very involved when grocery shopping, I have her naming colours and counting things, it’s really not that hard. But why do that when they can be entranced by a screen.
Gen alpha (raised correctly) here. To be honest, a fraction of the reason why gen alpha is so addicted to tablets is because parents think no good shows pass on the tv anymore, and i agree. Basically, CN for example. i tried my absolute best to enjoy the shows that passed on my tv. Where i live, atleast, NO good shows appeard. Tom and jerry? Nah, forget that, we have Owl's house, which shows lesbianism to children. Teen titans? No, we have the slop version with oversaturated colors and really just cringe in general. Most of these companies are being affected by greed (a virus, at this point), if something makes them money, they do it. Overall, they should make a separate version featuring only the og shows.

As a school psychologist working in ECE-5th grade, I cannot tell you how many times I have had to have uncomfortable conversations with parents who give their kids screens all day to placate them. They get into a negative loop where their children behave worse and worse, and to get respite they just give them the thing making it worse. Parents then push it onto the schools to teach their kids how to behave, and getting true wraparound support to teach healthy behavior at school AND in the home is almost impossible - and parents don't like hearing that it's partially up to them. It's one of the many reasons our IEP / disability rate is so much higher than it should be.

Same sir, I'm a Turkish teenager who is 16 years old. I got a little cousin who is around the age numbers mentioned in the video. I have noticed the same behavior with my cousin when he was watching translated videos of CocoMelon. Like a plant, alive but not able to react at all. Anyway sir, since you're a psychologist I want to ask a question. Nowadays majority of the teenagers in Turkey are... "weird" about their music choices. Absurdly %70 of the teenagers have (estimated number) been preferring "modern rap"(what rap songs have become. I'm not a huge fan of it it's like earrape in my opinion) over others. It's so weird like everywhere I go it's always the same various rappers' songs. Same thing on a repeat and I'm gonna be a bit critical, I don't know how they can stand these songs playing on a loop. All of a sudden rap songs' popularity skyrocketed and I person think there's something going on about this. The way kids are *attached*(yes attached, addicted isn't enough to describe) to these songs aren't normal. By chance do you possibly make a guess why teenages are attached to artists who just blow some random words to their microphones? Thanks for taking your time sir.

This wouldn't be a problem if parents would stop letting their kids stare at a screen for hours every day and actually let them use their imaginations and play with toys like kids did for thousands of years. Parents have become so incredibly lazy. Edit: I have 3 kids of my own. And 'screen time' doesn't exist in my house. Because they don't watch TV or play games except a couple hours A WEEK. Telling your kids to go outside and play or go play with their toys isn't hard, parents are just lazy and want their kids to leave them alone all day so they put a screen in their face and let them be hypnotized.
@IronMaskDuval9 сағат бұрын
Kids used to use their imagination and play with toys as screens didn't exist thousands of years ago. If they did i'm sure the same thing would have happened. It's also worth taking into account this generation of babies are also some of the first in which both parents are required to work much longer hours with childcare costs being higher than ever but family and friends less likely to help. It's pretty easy to claim parents are just lazy without first looking into how that happened in the first place.
@MrCombs2348 сағат бұрын
@@IronMaskDuval so the countless times I've seen kids in restaurants and stores or at sporting events with headphones on staring at an iPad has what to do with both parents working? agreed that _some_ parents has become incredibly lazy, but other parents are busy working, even from home, to be able to keep up with inflation since salaries hasn't gone up together with the cost of living and food. add to that that growing children need so many things; food, clothing, diapers, etc. there is an immense pressure on many parents nowadays, so i could see them wanting to placate their child long enough to finish up work, cook meals, clean the house, and then maybe have some few hours play with their child, or homework for slightly older kids.
@MrCombs2348 сағат бұрын
@IronMaskDuval yeah autism from watching too much of the screen and eating too much of the God awful food parents let their kids have. Don't get me started on autism, ADHD and ADD. I think people don’t take this seriously enough. Kids being addicted to TV shows due to unlimited screen time is a huge problem. I actually wrote a speech for my English writing exam titled “Unlimited screen time and the effects it can have on toddlers and their development”, and I covered most of the points in this video, as well as overstimulating children’s content as a whole and the fact that parents let their kids watch whatever whenever they want. It’s a huge problem that needs addressing more because not enough parents know the harm these shows can cause. (Btw I got a distinction on that English exam, and I have a baby cousin who watches Cocomelon. I’ve seen him temporarily go into a trance whilst watching it so I do know what I’m talking about lmao)

The huge problem with children's content now is there isn't any filters for it. Canadian cartoons used to have to follow strict guidelines to get aired on public channels and that resulted in almost every cartoon episode having some sort of purpose or resolution that the viewer can reflect on. KZbin kids content has no regulation and is all focused on watch time / ad revenue. I try to let my child only watch cartoons that I can watch with him, Franklin the Turtle and shows like that build the fundamentals most children need.

I never let my younger siblings watch Cocomelon because I didn't like it, I always changed it whenever it came on. I'm really glad I did that, because now they don't struggle with sayingwords because before hand they would only say one word and say it over and over again, they can speak much better and now the watch other things like Bluey and Super Simple Songs. Still, they always watch a little bit of TV and then they go play with their toys. If u don't turn on the TV they don't really pay attention to it, sometimes they ask but not as often. My mom buys them things like coloring books and hands-on toys and loves to take them outside and my siblings love going outside!

But, if we want parents not to show Cocomelon to their kids, why make Cocomelon available in the first place? Do we sell heroin in supermarkets and say to people "Hey don't buy that, it's bad for your health"? No, we don't want people to use it, therefore we don't sell it. And if we did sell it, then obviously, lots of people would buy it. That would be inevitable.

@@brinckau that is just not the same at all my guy... if cocomelon was on PBS or just any network with standards and regulations then sure, I get your point... but its youtube, theres no regulations for what is safe consumption for kids, if it meets the vague requirements to qualify for KZbin Kids then its fine by YT. Like in order for cocomelon to be unavailable theyd have to be breaking YT's guidelines, which they are not, so are you saying YT should make cocomelon illegal or the government should step in? Here ill make a really dumb analogy as well: why is caffeine legal to give to little kids? Is that CocaColas problem? the government? no! Once again parents are responsible for what their children consume and that applies to food and content consumption. The 2 YEAR OLD didnt get themselves addicted to a cocomelon, sugar, or any other unhealthy vice, the parents introduced and didnt regulate that in their childs life and the child at that age is reliant on a parent to get more, so if you just keep letting them watch cocomelon or do other unhealthy activities.... thats on the parent. Should cocomelon exist? No, I agree with you its not good and shouldnt be, but its not a Class A drug like fucking heroin with strict laws in place, its a YT channel man

Except having a child the "traditional" way is practically impossible now. This isn't 30 years ago where mom either straight up doesn't work or can take several years off to raise the child. Both parents are working 40+ hours to still barely make ends meet and mom is getting maybe like 2 months of maternity leave. The emotional and mental strain of raising a child alongside all these other factors and you can see why throwing a screen in front of the child for 2 hours after you worked 9 could sound appealing. There's a reason the birth rate is dropping year over year because it's financial suicide to have a child. It also doesn't help marriages also aren't lasting so good luck working 50 hours and "perfectly raising your child" as a single mother.

Definitely the parents fault, witnessed it first hand with my sister. She is very lazy when it comes to parenting and all 3 of her kids are addicted to there electronics to the point where the older two always say they are bored whenever I have babysat because they don’t get to be on electronics all day like they do at home. Watching this video a lot of things also started to make sense about the youngest who has just turned 3. Probably watches hours of Cocomelon a day and is quite frankly just a brat, throwing tantrums constantly and very delayed in his speech compared to his cousins of the same age range. Sad to see that there is a reason and it’s becoming a wide spread issue.

I've worked at a restaurant and I've noticed a trend whenever a family is seated. The kids that watch either Pixar films or use no electronics at all are often the most behaved. Then there's kids who scream a lot, wander across the restaurant without parental supervision, and the table is a complete mess after they sign the check. Those same kids at some point would watch Cocomelon that night and are suddenly silent. You can tell because the iPad is at max volume for as long as they're seated. What scares me is they're dependent on that device while the parents drink wine together as if it's a table for two. They're stuck

Honestly, I don't get it. Sure, the content is kinda harmful and stupid, but it's the parents who are putting 1- or 2-year-olds in front of the TV! That's just ridiculous. Someone says their EIGHT MONTH OLD throws tantrums while watching-do people realize babies shouldn’t even be sitting in front of a screen? It’s terrible for their development. Whether it's this show or another, it’s the same problem. Kids under 2 or 3 shouldn’t be watching TV at all, especially not alone, and never for more than 15 minutes. My kids don’t watch TV before 3, and even after that, they only watch a short show with us. Leaving them in front of a screen wastes valuable time they should be using to explore, learn, and ask questions. If they ask about the cartoon and you don’t have time to answer, what are they learning? It’s not up to the TV to teach your child-it’s your job. Parents need a reality check; allowing this is irresponsible, even borderline abusive.

I'm sorry for sounding old but I grew up in a time when my parents played with me as a baby (I have video proof because my mom loved to record things on beta max). Now you have parents who are glued to their phones and ignore their kids because it's "easier and less stressful" for them.

It is also the parents fault. Allowing the kid to watch cocomelon with no limit will make the kid want it again, and again. If you limit screen time the first time, at least the kid knows there is ground rules.

Honestly if you let KZbin babysit your kids, you get what you deserve

Thank god I grew up watching the original Thomas and Friends with Ringo Starr as the narrator in the early 2000s. I'm never ever giving my kid a mobile device.

As much as KZbin can make a parent’s life easier, make sure that KZbin doesn’t raise your kid for you.

As a 12 year old, I’ve experienced the “Cocomelon Addiction” when I was like 3-4 years old, I wasn’t aware of these points back then and I was extremely addicted. Now I don’t think this addiction lasts forever because at some age you’ll think Cocomelon is childish, but the fact of how addicting cocomelon is crazy. Now that I’m much older, I start to understand that when you’re young and get addicted to these stuff, you’re laying the foundation of a social media addiction, it’s also the main reason of your brain being rotted, now I’m still trying to get rid of my phone addiction. Stay safe guys

you too, but be careful about announcing your age, there are a _lot_ of creeps on social media.

Now this exactly encapsulated my own experience. The addiction's honestly slowing my management skills down to the point that my perceptions with small activities have become too difficult. But, if we learn to fight it, we could stop our future children to experience what we went through as children.

If I ever have kids they’ll only be allowed to watch Hanna-Barbera shows
