This kind of came out of nowhere. I was working on several other very, very different Killing Eve videos and then suddenly felt the urge to edit Villanelle after last episode. I thought I would find some fun and quirky song, but while going through my playlist, this song came up and it just...hit me.
I knew for a long time I wanted to edit this song and that Villanelle's speech would be a forefront of it, but I didn't originally see myself editing it purely to Villanelle. But god, this song fits her in such an ironic and painful way. She is always so close to having everything, and absolutely nothing.
I know she's done some bad things, but she's a baby. Protect her.

Her extreme intelligence, her childlike nature, her obsessions, her clear ability to feel emotion even though it is presented in such a twisted, dark way, and to only a small fraction of the people in her life...her superficial charm and flair, her ability to make someone feel so sorry for her, to make people root for her, when she has done so many awful things...she is an extraordinary creation of a character, and Jodie Comer performs her phenomenally. A true work of art.

This video and the parallels you make switching between Villanelle’s rejection from her mother and her rejection from Eve just made me realize how deeply this character was written, holy cow! People who undergo a trauma in childhood (for V, her mother’s rejection and abandonment) often replay the trauma throughout their lives, subconsciously trying to “correct” it by reclaiming control over a similar situation as the traumatic event they had no control over as a child. V does this in her obsessions with Anna and then with Eve, two older, mother-like female figures who, like her mother, she sees some part of herself in. With Anna and her mother, they refused to admit what they are (that they are deep down like her) (in her mother’s case especially) and subsequently reject her. What seems to anger V is not only the rejection of her but also the rejection of that part of her that she sees exists in these others as well (what she and Eve calls the “monster” inside of them in the s3 finale). Eve, on the other hand, in the season 3 finale (spoiler alert!), does admit to V that she is like her and she wanted her monster to encourage her monster all along, and when V admits her true self to Eve (“I’ve killed so many people”) she responds with acceptance, finally correcting the trauma of rejection that she experienced first with her mother and then with Anna too. And it makes so much sense why there was SUCH a huge shift in V’s overall energy after she went home to see her family - she started to uncover her trauma, and discovered when being rejected by her mother again just how much this rejection has shaped her current behavior patterns and longings, and once that awareness that comes from coming back to the source of trauma is ignited, it’s like an entire area of consciousness opens up and the trauma holds less power over us. Our behaviors then become a choice rather than an impulse or habit. As a survivor of childhood trauma I identified with this DEEPLY and damn the writers of this show did their homework.

I have to say that I understand the villanelle's monologue, from the first moment I saw it, I am not a psychopath or anything (I think) but I know how torturous it is to live a bored life without being able to feel anything. you get hurt and don't feel it, sex, drugs, friendships, outings, work, studies. NOTHING. it's horrible to live trying to capture some kind of emotion. all i feel is huge boredom, i can't focus on anything or anyone for a long time. living life like this is horrible, I identify a lot with her in this matter of life

I feel like in a lot of ways us viewer's can relate to villanelle's character, her storyline or at least some of the things she says. She's a very well written character and she definitely has somethings about her that we feel connected to whether that's based on our own personal lives or just how we feel in life overall, When she said "I hurt myself, doesn't hurt, I buy what I want, I don't want it, I do what I like, I don't like it" I felt that honestly and it hit close to home and I really do believe most of the viewer's can relate to one of the things she's said in the seasons

I think with Eve she will find healing, at least on some level. Eve understands her, she trusts her, feels safe with her. V cannot manipulate Eve, and she knows it- It is a beginning anyways. Season 4 will explore more of these dynamics as they try to navigate their relationship, which will never be quite normal but damn will it be interesting to watch! I am looking forward to their bickering while working together and trying to figure out how to be in a relationship- It will make for interesting dialogue! I’m so glad Eve got rid of “fudge w/a mustache” (Niko) BORING!!!

It's like when with depression u feel empty.. a land of nothing. U just want to go back to what means "falling in love", "smiling cuz u feel like" or "I love.. i like.. I'm satisfied". But u fake smiles cuz u can't FULLY explain how u feel when they ask u and it's hard even to yrself and ur like "yeah.. I guess it's like that" but NO ONE can understand what and how u feel until they go through it themselves. So I kinda understand the emptiness of a feeling, but there's still empathy in me. With her character it's really lonely and heartbreaking how she doesn't want to feel how she is now and the "promise of tomorrow" is really empty too cuz it's not gonna change and u really start to being heartless and confused and more confused if they react disgusted and angry when u don't even know what's wrong with u emotionally. No emotions and no one who cares about u cuz they're not gonna get love in return and if they cared, u wouldn't know how to handle those feelings. It's a mess from the start and to be honest I wouldnt want to be friends or have any kind of relationship with her..it would kill me psychologically and emotionally. • Anyway This is a masterpiece and thank u for this Art even tho I didn't saw the show I FULLY understood the feeling behind. Every time I think I'm over the finale and can go on with my life I open KZbin and thousand of killing eve edits pop up (Yeah KZbin knows my obsession). Sadly I don't have any self discipline at all and end up totally emotional broken after I watched like every single edit. And i dont want to lie, this one realy got me.
