Beautiful C&O 490 model. Thanks for sharing since the only picture 3rd rail had on their site was a HO model. I have the MTH Railking version and it doesn't compare to this scale model. One day I hope to get the Orange version to match my MTH 6 car Chessie passenger set. I like your layout as well and you are making great progress.

ERR is incomparably superior to that old TMCC. Runs so smooth and beautifully. I just recently put ERR into a 3rd Rail Big Boy and added flickering firebox lights and it's a brand new locomotive now.

Yes! I do like ERR! Very cool on the Bigboy, that makes for a great set up for the older 3rd rails without TMCC and cruise. 👍

Goldengate Depot/3rdrail are a company that produces the most detailed and accurate model train locomotives and rolling stock. Everything is limited run number though and rarely is there anything left over beyond what customers ordered since limited run. They look great though. Thank you

Cross your fingers, and make sure to at least test run them for 10 minutes as soon as you get them, hopefully you have better luck than me. It’s a long story that I haven’t shared on the channel, but I’m pretty much finished with buying anything new from Lionel. Which does make me sad, I was a huge fan and advocate, been burned too many times, lack of customer service and general concern for their customers these days.

I really hope you don't encounter any problems or issues with this engine in the future. Sunset 3rd Rail is notorious for not standing by their products should something break or stop working. They don't warranty any of their stuff. There is a repair man that is authorized by 3rd Rail to work on and repair their products but just be aware that you are completely at his mercy when it comes to getting parts or having your engine fixed. Even getting a simple pair of traction tires is a real nightmare from what I understood from people who own 3rd Rail models and dealt with him. Plus he charges alot of money per hour to perform any kind of repairs and you have to pay for shipping both ways when you deal with him. I've got a friend who bought a brand new 3rd Rail PRR S1 duplex years ago and when the drawbar ripped out from the tender he contacted 3rd Rail directly and they flat out told him to go to Home Depot, buy crazy glue and fix it himself. They made a ridiculous excuse as to why they would not repair his engine. That's what's been preventing me from buying any 3rd Rail products.

Sorry to hear about that experience with the S1, no fun at all when an expensive locomotive has an issue. Part of the hobby I enjoy is working on stuff, anything modern has a higher propensity to break with all the detail plus electronics with bells and whistles so to speak. With being in RC Cars, boats, and HO scale and N scale trains, I’m used to needing to work on my stuff and often improvise and substitute for what things were designed with. I totally get work your saying though, it’s no fun and a big chance of having an issue with quality work or parts availability with every brand these days. Great heads up though for people knew to the hobby and setting up what could happen! 👍

Agreed, the MTH version is a Railking and Semi Scale, not sure MTH didn’t make this one and several other of their Semi Scale locomotives in scale, like the 49er’s and Commodore Vanderbilt’s. Thank you!
