Hell yes! This game is definitely Old West Contra, I played the SNES version a bunch, one of those games I rented way too many times. Greedwell's 'Bury me with my money' is one of my most memorable voice clips from that era. Something about the game's style has just always stuck with me. Oh and I usually played as Bob! :)

Positron Why didn't you just buy the game, if you rented it several times?
@yellowblanka60586 жыл бұрын
Herb Cruz - cartridge games could be quite expensive back in the day, it's possible that even with multiple rentals it was still cheaper than buying the cartridge.

It's not exactly rare but it is ridiculously expensive for a CIB copy.

Sunset Riders is heavily Americanized but not as much as Contra.. as a result, you get a unique blend of Western Cowboy shenanigans enhanced by subtle anime tropes and irreverent Japanese humor. There's nothing quite like it. :)

You've got good taste in games. I never beat Sunset Riders in the arcade, but I always had fun playing it. Konami was a boss at making awesome games back in the day.

Nice video Erin, Sunset Riders is great! I'm sure this classic was a big inspiration for Metal Slug

Excellent choice! My friends and I spent so much money on this game and Konami's other arcade games back in the '90s! They were on fire back then, with back to back hits. I really miss the arcade scene from that time. My hometown had some of the biggest and best arcades!
@ErinPlays7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I really wish there were more arcades around now that could capture that "vibe" from back then. I was a bit too young to fully appreciate it at the time, but luckily I do have a few fond memories. Thanks for watching!
@stphinkle6 жыл бұрын
Erin Plays There are still some arcades around. Not as many as their used to be but chains like Dave & Busters, Boomers, Nickel City, Chuck E Cheese, Tilt, and others still exist. Plus some amusement parks still have them. Many have shifted toward more redemption games. There are also some museums that have the old classic games. Well there is always MAME too.
@roguerifter97245 жыл бұрын
I actually never played the arcade game but I loved the SNES game. I remember being shocked when I discovered that it was one of the rarest, if not the rarest SNES game that I owned. I remember my grandmother getting it for me from a Kay-Bee Toys Christmas sale for $20. I also remember having to referee a fight between my twin cousins while babysitting them due to the inferiority of the Genesis version. For those who don't know the SNES game inclyded all four playable character with there being two who wield revolvers, and two who [ack shotguns allowing for two player to both use revolvers, both use shotguns, or use one of each if they wish. The Genesis version only has two character with one shotgun wielder and one Revolver wielder so in two player games one player has to use each weapon. Me, all of my cousins who played the game, and pretty much everyone I know or knew who played it vastly prefer shotguns in Sunset Riders. And they were playing the SNES version at my house long before they got a Genesis much less the Genesis port of Sunset Riders. I was going to babysit them the night they got Sunset Riders while their older brothers were on dates and their mom was out of town. All seemed well at first. There was Pizza in the fridge for dinner and they would merrily romp though Sunset Riders while I spent some time reading and playing Gameboy. Then came the discovery that only one of them could play as a shotgun wielder and the argument over who it would be ensued... To this day I'm frimly convinced that the decision to only include two playable characters in the Genesis port was made by a Nintendo loyalist on the development team who realized that doing so was the most efficient means of sabotaging the Genesis version of Sunset Riders.

This game definitely has similarities to Contra, though I think it's more forgiving in general. Great game in its own right though. Great soundtrack too. Makes me nostalgic for the days of wandering into an arcade/up to an arcade machine as a kid and marveling at all the colors, sound and action. The final boss wearing the metal plate is a reference to a Clint Eastwood movie (I think it was "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", where he wears the door from a stove under his poncho to protect himself during a gunfight.

I never played sunset Riders so I can't compare, but I played a lot of Contra with my brother and it works pretty well as a two player game, but you do need to have some coordination (like on level 3 if someone jumps too high and the other person is low you can kill them with screen-bottom) But if you play it together a bunch (which you'd have to, it's Contra, 10 minutes to beat, 3 months of everyday playing so that you can) it's actually a lot help to have another person, and if you both have spread, most bosses never get to finish their initial animation. Also on Super C that laser showerhead that I hate is a lot easier with two people as well
@ShishiVids4 жыл бұрын
You played this on MAME? D: 0:10 😍😍 ERIN HAS A USB ARCADE STICK!!! You know they make arcade sticks with silent buttons now, and they even replace the stick part with buttons on a new stick called a Hitbox I believe. So it's like a D Pad on an arcade stick lol. There's been some controversy about those because it gives some advantages in fighting games although its much harder to use!! :O

This game screams arcade. I love the colors. I'm Norwegian, and we had arcades, but they were forbiddingly expensive. Iirc it was common for a credit to cost 10 kroner/crowns in the nineties, which would be like $1.5. Did you typically get one credit for a quarter in the US?
