I lost my Mama on May 16, 2022. She was 98, but it doesn't make it any easier. After all, Mama's are extra special. I will see a flower I know she would love to see & I will say, I'll have to get that for her & then I remember she is no longer here. Or I'll hear a song & go thru the same feeling. I did many things with my parents. I took them on vacations & day trips that I know they would never go on their own & I cherish all those memories! I am sitting here & burst out in tears. I am 67 & a grown man. My Mama was the last member of her immediate family too. If your parents are still living, make good memories with them. Give them a hug & a kiss on the cheek, call them on the phone. Never forget who they are, thru the good times & bad.
@rebecajohnston11354 ай бұрын
Thank you for letting me know that at 68 I can still cry thinking about my parents and how much I miss them. My dad and I were both history teachers at the beginnings of our careers. We went to several of his Navy reunions with our parents and I was in heaven. To this day I'll see a new documentary on WWII and pick up the phone to call him because we always called each other to tell the other to switch channels to History. Military History, American Heroes, etc. I watch "The Pacific" sobbing, remembering his stories, but I feel his presence. During any bad time I hear my mother telling me not to sweat the bad times because they don't last forever, but to enjoy the good times to the fullest because they don't last forever either. We are so blessed to have had parents so incredible that they remain with us today. 🙏

The song my daughter loved more than any other, and i would sing to her as a little girl. She would say "Sing the Sunshine on your shoulder Daddy", and i would try, but i was no singer by a long shot, but she did not seem to pay much attention to that, for her it was the words that mattered. She is in another realm now, she left us at the early age of 35. And now tears come to my eyes when i hear this song, but i listen all the same, because i know that she would want me too. and she would be upset with me crying, so i try very hard not to. This simple song expresses the beauty with which my daughter saw the world and the beauty that she brought to it every day she lived in this realm.

Once there was a small town in Colorado called Sunshine. The people of this town were all hippies who loved to party and live a laid-back lifestyle. One day, the town received word that a famous musician named John Denver would be coming to visit. The hippies were all very excited to meet this man and decided to throw a special party for him when he arrived. The party was a huge success and everyone had a great time, but when it came time for John Denver to leave, it was hard for the hippies to let him go.

I sang this song to both my kids years ago when they still wanted to hear their dad sing (not so much today - I don’t have much of a singing voice). Now, I can’t hear it without breaking down and longing for those days when there was so much hope. I wish I could have always given them the day described in the song but I know I fell far short of that and have so much regret for the many ways I could have done better. For those of you who have young children- cherish them and try to live in the moment for them. Don’t let the challenges of life steal those precious moments from you like I often did. For me, I’m still trying to make up for the times I wasted but years of errors are hard to overcome. Don’t make the same mistakes I did.
