Very interesting presentation, not just a head gasket job, but other things to resolve at the same time. Those stud bolts are going to be a challenge to remove. And opening the exhaust manifold labyrinth will be a beast because everything is corroded in place. Might require a trip to the machine shop for surface flattening of the head, the exhaust/intake manifold areas, what about the upper engine surfaces...all very time consuming.

yes mitsubishi had them little extra valves, they were in a screwed in assembly in the head,so screwed the assembly out and took the little valve out and welded up the hole, screwed the assembly back in and the removed all the extra rockers etc.It was for emissions but caused more i think when they failed.

I owned a 1976 Honda Civic 5-speed CVCC in the exact same color. I bought a bottle of touch-up paint from my Honda dealer. That official Honda color was shown as "Canary Yellow" not Sunshine Yellow. I kept my '76 Civic until 1990 when I bought a new Civic. I got rid of the '76 when my head gasket failed. Probably a common weakness with that model. I gifted my '76 to the mechanic who had cared for it. I turned over the title to my mechanic's wife who would drive it after he rebuilt the engine on his time and on his dime.

You gotta watch it Stella sleeping on bare concrete, my late father-in-law up in Chillwack, BC had a dog he let sleep on the bare concrete back stoop and he got arthritis really bad and by the time he was years old he could barely walk and howled in pain every time he took a step. Better to give her an old couch cushion to sleep on to get her off the floor, even in the shop.

I don’t envy you on those exhaust studs. Interesting weird exhaust manifold too.

It's good to see that Stella's rest was not interrupted, during the making of this video!😁😀😊😉

It all looks like mad, crazy designs, but it really did work back when they were new as they were really economical and clean running little cars. It shows what can be done when engineers work to make engines more efficient rather than taking the lazy route of loading them up with electrics and sticking catalysts on them...

I remember removing the head off mine here recently because timing was off and all the I take valves were bent lol, anyways I couldn't remove the exhaust manifold with the head so I had to unbolt that whole assembly from the head it sucked

Nice little Civic, they were very common in my youth. You may find parts in the Netherlands if you would need them.

Do you have to replace the piston rings and gaskets and oil pump? While you have the head off.
