I really enjoyed this video, would you consider making an Oregon sunstone price index based on color, clarity, Schiller content, etc? I would love to see the available spectrum and some ideas of the possibilities.

Thanks for the kind comment. Gemstone prices are volatile, varying dramatically across time and also from venue to venue, and based on everything from cutting to terms of transaction. The price for any specific stone may vary my huge percentages based on these factors. The only way to know the market is to actually be in the market. And, even people who are active in the market may be unaware of prices transacting at the same time but in a different venue - possibly even just across town. The most dramatic example of this is during a show like Tucson, where prices may vary by double (or half) depending on which side of the I-10 freeway you're standing on. Thus, producing a price index that has any use or real meaning would be too limited in scope and time-frame to be of any use, especially to those not truly active in the trade. I hope this explanation is helpful.

I'd definitely be cutting the longitudinal cleavages off before even considering the perpendicular cracks. If faceted, that perpendicular (width-wise) crack might get faceted out with a keel. But obviously, it would impossible to tell until the long cleavage plains are removed.

Prices are volatile, varying dramatically across time and also from venue to venue. Rough stones are "worth" whatever someone will give you for them - at the time and place you're offering them for sale. If you get an offer you like, take it and don't look back.
